Don't be a Sue

Photobucket

Well, Glee started its new season this week with a Britney-themed episode that did a pretty amazing job of recreating a lot of her most popular videos with the cast, especially the character also called Britney (who often as the best lines in an episode). She really looked a lot like Brits in each scenario, which was surprising.

The show has also partnered with American Express for their Member's Project to raise money for charities. My favorite is the one with Sue talking about getting involved in the world...

"What do animals do besides poop on your lawn and make you feel guilty about how delicious they are?"

I love me some Sue Sylvester.

Also, sad news today about Tony Curtis...

Screen legend Tony Curtis died Thursday, his family said. He was 85.

Curtis starred in more than 150 motion pictures and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in 1958's "The Defiant Ones" with Sidney Poitier.
Curtis also is known for his roles in the 1959 movie "Some Like it Hot" with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon and "Spartacus" in 1960 with Kirk Douglas. He also played the lead role in "The Boston Strangler," released in 1968.

He will be missed.

Oprah in lederhosen

Photobucket

It looks like The Sound of Music is also one of Oprah's favorite things...

Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer will join fellow "Music" stars Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) on Winfrey's show on October 29, 2010.

Photobucket

Ironically, three of those child actors ended up in classic Sci-Fi TV series several years later.

Angela Cartwright (Brigitta) went on to star as Penny Robinson in Lost in Space.

Photobucket

Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich) went on to star in The Amazing Spiderman way before Tobey Maguire was capable of being conceived.

Photobucket

And Heather Menzies (Louisa) went on to marry Robert Vegas Urich and also co-star in Logan's Run.

Photobucket

Maria and the Captain must be very proud.

Ooops

Australia's Next Top Model aired their finale last night and did something we all knew would happen one day on one of these shows...

They announced the wrong winner on live TV and then...had to correct it halfway through the faux-winner's acceptance speech.

Awkward.

Abner!!!

Photobucket

Lenny Kravitz really put some thought into this particular outfit before leaving his house recently.

Maybe he was just on his way to audition for the role of Emma Peel in a new Avengers movie...

Photobucket

I hope he ditched the murse (man-purse) before he attempted any fight scenes.

It's just going to get in the way.

The kids aren't all right

Photobucket

The new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) just came out and it looks like our Hogwartians are ready to rumble...

It also looks like Amy Winehouse has a featured role.

Well, at least her wig.

Making it so

It's always interesting to see who might have been cast in some of the iconic roles from your favorite TV shows. As you can see from this old casting memo for Star Trek: The Next Generation, we could have ended up with a very different crew.

Photobucket

To think that Yaphett Kotto might have been Picard or that Denise Crosby was actually considered the "only" person to play Counselor Troi (she made a much better Tasha).

Maybe if Wesley Snipes had gotten the role of Geordi, he might have found someone to manage his tax situation better and, with his busy schedule, we may have been spared the Blade movie sequels.

If only he could turn back time...

Walkin' Shoes

Photobucket

If you want to spend a day hiking in some of the beautiful scenery surrounding Portland, all you have to do is take a 15-20 minute drive outside the city to Multnomah Falls.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It is the tallest waterfall in Oregon and the third-tallest year-round waterfall in the U.S. Plus, the mile hike up to the top is filled with loads of visual fun and kind of reminded me of when I went hiking in New Zealand.

Kathy on Kimmel

Kathy Griffin was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel this past week discussing Oprah and the VMA's (hopefully the DVR recorded them while I was up here in Portland) and, as always, she was hilarious.

Enjoy all three parts...I know I did.

Into the Woods

Photobucket

I have really missed nature.

One of the highlights of my trip this week was visiting Portland's famous Washington Park, which sits just above the city and makes for a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Mother Nature.

The park has an expansive rose garden that contains countless varieties of the flower that the city has become famous for over the years.

There is also an amazing Japanese Garden where you can relax, unwind, and recharge your brain and soul, while taking in the Zen-like scenery at every turn.

I sometimes forget what it is like to be surrounded by clean air, green landscape, and...quiet.

Over time, Los Angeles unconsciously conditions a person to live without those essential things and, the longer that you stay, you eventually seem to accept that "your world" is fine without it.

I can't believe I've lived in L.A. for almost 28 years and, until recently, rarely seemed to recognize the effect that the environment there has had on me over time.

However, I do know that for the past few years as I have pushed myself to travel outside of it...I have found it harder to look forward to my return.
