Tronitized

Photobucket

As the release of the new Tron sequel, Tron: Legacy, approaches, AICN has started a new contest to take classic movies and "Tronitize" them...

AICN has been holding a contest for fans to create Tron-like versions of their favorite movie scenes. The best of the Tronitized shorts will be displayed at the annual Butt-Numb-A-Thon on December 11-12th at the Alamo Drafthouse South in Austin, TX.

The Butt-Numb-A-Thon event sounds...uncomfortable.

This Alien version is my favorite so far...

Here is the official trailer for Tron: Legacy if you haven't seen it. It opens December 17th.

Don't call me Shirley

Photobucket

Very sad news...

Leslie Nielsen, whose longtime career as a dramatic actor took a sudden turn into comedy with spoofs like "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died at age 84, his family said Sunday.

I will never forget how hard I laughed during the first Airplane movie...crying...CRYING and snorting!

It was so funny and a big part of it was because of him. I also loved him in the Naked Gun series and movies.

He was hilarious and will be missed very much.

Kathy on Kimmel

Kathy Griffin made another entertaining appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's show recently. You can tell that they really like and enjoy each other, which is nice.

The video image for the first part makes it look likes she's going into some kind of demonic trance, doesn't it? "Very" flattering...

She also revealed a preview of her "new movie", The Justin Beiber Story, in which she plays....Justin Bieber.

I enjoy her so.

Smoke and Mirrors

With the barrage of conflicting media messages and images being thrust upon us daily, it becomes increasingly difficult to believe anything you see or hear anymore.

I found two interesting examples of that today.

Here is a clip of an ex-insurance company bigwig, Wendell Potter, who apologized recently to Michael Moore for his part in a giant smear campaign at the time, funded by the big insurance companies and various influencial political figures, to discredit him and his film, Sicko, because they feared that the public might actually believe what Michael said (which Mr. Potter now admits in his new book, Deadly Spin, was the truth) and then, as a result, would demand change...which would destroy them.

It's always appalling to find out how far greedy companies, brands, and political factions will go to distract, deflect, and misinform the public about the truth on any number of real issues that affect each of us daily.

However, it's mostly just sad to think about how easily so many people accept the lies that they are told daily and then...just wait to be told what to do, rather than take the time to research the facts and form their own opinion about what is real and what is not.

For example...most people would look at this video clip and be blown away by how beautifully this director shot these simple everyday subjects.

Those people would accept it for what it was, tell their friends about it, and then move on.

However, what they would never know without doing a little research, was that nothing in that video was real.

It was all CGI.

Don't let the CGI in the media stop you from checking into reality now and then.

As Mulder and Scully have always preached "The truth IS out there."

It's up to each of us to make the effort to find it.

Doris' Day

Photobucket

Carol Burnett guest-stars on Glee tonight, playing Sue Sylvester's mom, Doris. We'll finally get to see where Sue gets all of her charm and warmth.

And, if the preview from last week was accurate, it looks like Sue will also be getting married to someone...we're just not sure who. But, the clip did show Sue in a classic tracksuit-esque wedding dress...

Photobucket

Fashionable and practical.

And for those of you who enjoy Mr. Shue and his many talents, Details magazine features him on the cover this month.

Photobucket

Judging by the headline, it sounds like a very serious article about World Peace, Quantum Physics, and Abs.

Photobucket

Knowledge is power, people.

Global Swarming

Photobucket

It looks like "one or two" people decided to check out the new Harry Potter movie this past weekend:

The seventh Harry Potter got off to an enchanting overseas start this weekend, earning an estimated $205 million on 19,000 screens in 91 markets (including $4.2 million from 101 IMAX screens). That's the highest foreign opening for a movie released outside of the summer season, and it's the fourth-biggest international opening ever.

Add in its domestic take ($125.1 million), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 has already made a staggering $330.1 million worldwide.

That's a lot of cash.

I would like some of that, please.

Someone Like You

22-year-old Grammy winner, Adele, recently debuted a new single off of her upcoming album (due in January) on the UK talk show Later...with Jools Holland.

It's a beautiful song...

She sings with the emotional heart and soul of someone three times her age.

Amazing.

No shoes, No shirt

Photobucket

I looks like Entertainment Weekly didn't have much of a wardrobe budget for their photo shoot with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway who are obviously willing to do anything to promote their new movie, Love and Other Drugs.

And since nudity and discussions about sex never sell magazines, they wisely decided to release three different versions of the cover hoping the star's facial expressions might attract a wide range of ovulating consumers.

This one for happy couples.

This one for serious couples.

This one for couples suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Green Lantern Trailer

Photobucket

The first Green Lantern trailer has finally arrived (showing before the new Harry Potter movie that opens this week).

(You can see the full-screen size by clicking the box with the arrows on the right of the player)

It doesn't look too bad, although I'm always a little concerned when a superhero trailer focuses more on the wacky humor and dialogue (Hello-goodbye, Green Hornet movie) than the actual story. Hopefully there will be a good balance...

If not, there will be much bitterness.

Gwyneth does Glee

Photobucket

Gwyneth Paltrow makes her first, of several, guest-star appearances on Glee tonight, playing substitute teacher, Holly Holliday. It's probably a very smart move (like her performance on the CMAs) to help promote her upcoming movie, Country Strong, where she plays a country singer.

Here is one of her songs from Glee.

The girl can carry a tune.

If any of you missed Darren Criss (who just signed on for the rest of the season) singing the Katy Perry "Teenage Dream" song to Kurt last week on Glee, here it is.

I'm really excited that Darren is joining the cast full time.

Photobucket

He has very nice...vocal cords.

Hands-on Therapy

If you didn't get the chance to catch up on the last two parts of Web Therapy, with Meryl Streep, here they are. At the end of the first episode, it sounded like Fiona was about to lose her husband to Camilla (if you missed the first part, scroll down four entries or just click here to watch it).

However, as you'll soon see, Fiona figures out a way to use her husband's "issue" to her advantage in a very creative way to keep her marriage together.

Fiona is crafty.

Cher Shares

If you missed Cher's appearance on David Letterman last night (like I did)...enjoy it here (until CBS removes it), won't you?

UPDATE: Of course, CBS removed that interview, so I found another interview they did from 1998 that is also really entertaining. They are always funny together.

Clark Griswold Experience

Photobucket

A couple of weeks ago, during my very LONG drive across Route 66 to Atlanta, I did manage to stop by and see the Grand Canyon.

Photobucket

I almost skipped it, but everyone said "You have to see it...you HAVE to see it." and, since I didn't really have an excuse not to, I decided to take a quick detour and see what all the hoopla was about.

To be honest...it was just okay.

I mean, it's certainly a really big crack in the Earth and something you don't just see everywhere. The view is pretty amazing the first time you see it and the terrain is interesting...for a few minutes.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

But, after the extra hour of driving off the freeway towards it and then another hour of driving through the park to the lot and then a series of tram rides to get to a place with some kind of a view and then hiking a gazillion winding pathways uphill only to see a very similar view as the last place you had just visited...I was kinda done.

Photobucket

OH...and most of those winding pathways run dangerously close to the edge of the canyon without a single guardrail to prevent you from easily plummeting to your death onto the jagged rocks far below.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

To be fair, my experience was probably less thrilling because I had just driven for 12 consecutive hours and thought, as I was exiting the freeway, that there would probably be one or two quick "Oooo Aaahhhh" areas for photos, a serene spiritual moment to contemplate life, and then I'd slip back into my car and continue my drive completely overwhelmed by the majesty that I had just witnessed.

Ehhh...not so much.

Photobucket

Although, I will say I momentarily envied all of the other people watching the sunset who appeared to be having the very spiritual experience I had hoped to have upon my arrival four hours earlier.

Photobucket

They all just sat there calmly and took it in...very relaxed...and didn't seem to care one bit that they were in the way of every single shot I was trying to get of the canyon at sunset.

Photobucket

So...I quickly knocked them all over the edge with a really big stick, took this picture, and headed back on the road towards my new home.

See Grand Canyon.

Check.

Gaghurlchunkin

Photobucket

In the past few days, I've read about three "combo" holiday meals that, visually, make me throw up in the back of my throat a bit. The first being Turducken which is chicken stuffed inside a duck...stuffed inside a turkey.

And if you don't want to go through all that stuffing trouble, why not try a Turkey Cake?

Photobucket

This mouth-watering creation is made up of a layer of sweet potatoes, stuffing, and Turkey loaf with a mashed potatoes icing that is topped with brown marshmallows.

And what, you must be wondering, goes best with that? Why...Cherpumple, of course.

Photobucket

That would be Cherry Pie + Pumpkin Pie + Apple Pie = Cherpumple

These creations all remind me of that episode of Friends where Rachel made a traditional English dessert, but accidentally combined that recipe with a Shepard's Pie recipe...

Photobucket

"It's a trifle. It's got all of these layers. First there's a layer of ladyfingers, then a layer of jam, then custard, which I made from scratch, then raspberries, more ladyfingers, then beef sauteed with peas and onions, then a little more custard, and then bananas, and then I just put some whipped cream on top!"

To which Ross later replied: "It tastes like feet."

Bring me a bucket!

Therapy Becomes Her

Meryl Streep started a three episode story arc yesterday on Lisa Kudrow's hilariously awkward Web Therapy online series. Meryl plays Camilla, a sexual orientation therapist who is working with Fiona's husband, Kip, to try to straighten out his sexual issues with men with the hope of saving his political career and marriage.

"I think Kip's confusion about what excites him, sexually, may stem from his relationship with a...mannish-woman."

My fruit shake almost made an unexpected exit out of my nose when Meryl said that.

The last two episodes air tomorrow (Nov. 10th) and Friday (Nov. 12th). Check back on the LStudio Web site to see how things work out for Kip and Fiona.

It doesn't look good.

Junk in my trunk

Photobucket

Sofia Vergara (Gloria on Modern Family, which I love!) was part of another funny hidden-camera prank on Ellen last week (similar to the one I posted recently with David Beckham).

I really don't know how the actors are able to keep a straight face while being so ridiculous (Ellen certainly can't)...that makes it even funnier.

"This were based in a movie like where the dogs were in, like, the Texas. I don't remember, but it was like there were some dogs and they were running in Texas."

Hilarious.

Peeping Tom

Photobucket

A tourist in Dubai caught this pic and video of Tom Cruise hanging outside of his window at the Burj Dubai (the tallest building in the world) as he prepared to film a scene from Mission Impossible: 4.

I have to hand it to him, it takes a lot of guts (and, for me, Vodka) to allow yourself to be dangled like a puppet from the top of a building that far off the ground.

I'd need to be wearing an entire box of Depends.

Here is another video of him just hanging up there waiting to shoot. Whoever filmed this really needs to figure out how to use their camera to shoot things horizontally.

If only Tom had been this calm/serene that day on Oprah...

It's McBack

Photobucket

Although I find the sandwich visually unsettling, it seems that a lot of people wait for its return each year:

McDonald's is "inviting McRib fans to tap into their creative passion with the launch of The Legends of McRib website." The site collects "McRib stories and tall tales submitted by fans who want to share their love for the sandwich with the world. The legends don’t have to be true. They don’t have to even be possible. They just have to be bigger than life and worthy of The Legends of McRib.

The winner gets a trip to Germany (the only country that sells McRibs year round) and his or her story animated into cartoon that McDonald's can use for marketing.

The idea of eating faux ribs glazed with shiny sauce makes me throw up a little bit in the back of my throat.

I'd never last on Survivor.

All about Me

Photobucket

Ricky Martin will be promoting his new book on Oprah today:

In his first television interview since coming out, Ricky shares why he kept silent about his sexuality. Then, meet his 2-year-old twins! Plus, the world premiere of his new song with Joss Stone.

Photobucket

I like me some Ricky Martin and Joss Stone.

Setting the DVR now...

He is Us

This week, Entertainment Weekly features Chris Evans on their cover from his upcoming movie Captain America.

Photobucket

I don't know much about the Captain America character other than he carries around an indestructible shield and fights Nazis. According to his comic lore, "Weakling Everyman Steve Rogers ingests the Super-Soldier serum and gains incredible strength and agility."

Photobucket

Every man does not look like that.

I think "Super-Soldier serum" is now known as Steroids. The results are evident when viewing the variety of ox-shouldered guys at the gym whose ginormous arm trunks haven't casually relaxed against (or touched) their hips since their "treatments" began.

Photobucket

Now that looks natural.
