Nude York

Photobucket

Anyone want to go to New York in June?

BROADWAY BARES combines the naughtiness of burlesque with the razzle-dazzle of Broadway and has been a smashing success since its inception in 1992. The event, featuring the hottest male and female dancers on Broadway, has become one of BC/EFA's signature events. The first Broadway Bares featured just seven dancers performing choreographed stripteases on a bar and raised more than $8,000. Through 21 editions, BROADWAY BARES has raised more than $8.6 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Looks like good old fashioned fun for everyone.

Well, I also enjoy this little sketch based on it...

What's up, Gareth?

Photobucket

Mickey Rourke has been set to play out gay rugby player Gareth Thomas for a while now, which was always an odd choice, since he looks old enough to play his father (he's 59, and Gareth is 37).

Photobucket

Thankfully, Mickey has backed down recently...

Mickey Rourke has pulled out of a starring role in a movie he's developing about gay Welsh rugby icon Gareth Thomas because he says he's too old for the training.

Said Rourke: "The physical thing is harder than I thought. I'm just trying to get fit enough to do it."

I think it's a wise move...especially now that they're considering Inception's and the upcoming Dark Knight's Tom Hardy to take his place.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Here's Gareth...

Photobucket

And here's Tom...

Photobucket

Photobucket

I think Mr. Hardy is a much better choice all around.

Photobucket

And I mean ALL around!

UPDATE: I just found out that Tom will not be playing Gareth.

"Any notion that Mickey is giving up on the role are way off the mark. We'd love Tom Hardy to be involved, but he will not be playing me. I teamed up with Mickey because in my opinion there's nobody better to take on such a challenging role and nothing has changed there. He's so motivated by the role it's blown me away. I'm an ex-rugby player, films are Mickey's world and I totally trust in his vision for the film."

In the words of Anatasia Beaverhausen..."Devil"!

I admire his dedication to Mickey Rourke, but he's just completely wrong to play him (and just too old).

So, my next choice would be the multi-talented action star...Mr. Jason Stratham.

Photobucket

I should be in casting.

Or at least in charge of "auditioning".

Snack Attack

Photobucket

It seems that "one or two" people went to see The Hunger Games this weekend...

Lionsgate just revised upwards its worldwide total to a massive $214.25 million for The Hunger Games which was projected to be the No. 1 title in virtually every single market globally. The studio reports this morning that this opening weekend’s North American grosses for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games total a humongous $155 million after making $68M Friday and $51M Saturday anticipating a decent $36M Sunday hold.

Lionsgate also finally reported its weekend international numbers which were a very strong $59.25M and tracking ahead of the first Twilight Saga film.

I am going to see it on Wednesday night and am trying to keep my expectations low...just in case.

However, the reviews have been pretty good and, from what I've heard from people who read the books and saw the movie, they appear to have done a good job translating it as well.

If you saw it, what did you think?

Tweet-You!

Here are some celebs reading not-always-so-nice, yet very entertaining, Twitter messages that have been sent to them.

I thought Andy Dick was in jail.

I think for everyone's own good...he should be.

Mirror, Mirror

Photobucket

That's what usually happens when I look in the mirror in the morning.

The latest trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman was released last week and, like the trailer for Prometheus, it's looking really good.

Cool visuals!

So much better than the Julia Roberts Snow White movie.

That will be an OnDemand viewing experience for sure.

Air Traffic

Photobucket

It looks like Sister Bertrille may have some company up in the skies soon...

Watch Dutch mechanical engineer Jarno Smeets take off and fly just by flapping wings of his own invention—like a real bird! It's uncanny.

Photobucket

Smeets developed the wings over an eight-month period. They use a special motion mechanism built around an Android phone and Nintendo Wii controllers. His system allows him to literally start flapping his arms to take off and keep flying.

If something like this ever got approved for regular folks to use, I'd definitely get them.

Can you imagine how much more fun your commute would be?

Not to mention the option to poop on people down below you.

UPDATE: Turns out this was fake...

Surprise! The video of a man flying with a mechanically-assistated set of bird wings is a hoax. Not only did Jarno Smeets not actually fly like a bird, his name isn’t even Jarno Smeets. It’s actually Floris Kaayk, a Dutch CGI artist and filmmaker who told a Dutch TV show today that the “Human Bird Wing” project was all part of a documentary he’s making on Internet hoaxes.

If I find out that Sister Bertrille can't really fly, I'm going to be really sad.

Looks like Steel Magnolias is getting a Lifetime makeover...

Queen Latifah is joining the star-studded cast for Lifetime’s all-African-American Steel Magnolias reboot as M’Lynn, the character played by Sally Field in the 1989 feature film of the same name.

Condola Rashad will play her diabetes-stricken daughter, Shelby (played by Julia Roberts), and Rashad’s mother Phylicia will reinterpret the role of Clairee (portrayed by Olympia Dukakis). Alfre Woodard will tackle the irascible Ouiser, who was unforgettably played by Shirley MacLaine, Jill Scott looks to fill Dolly Parton’s shoes as understanding hairdresser Truvy, and Pariah breakout Adepero Oduye will play insecure newcomer Annelle, made famous by Daryl Hannah.

Remakes like this always make me nervous and I usually expect the worst (Nora Ephron's Bewitched "update" was unforgivable).

However, the 21 Jumpstreet movie seems to be pulling in the kids and decent reviews, so anything is possible.

I just wish they had chosen Marla Gibbs to play Ouiser.

She would have been great!

Prometheus

Photobucket

A new extended trailer was released today and, as George Takei would say...Oh, MY!

Definitely enlarge the video player window to get the full effect!

If this movie is half as good as these trailers, it's gonna kick ass!

Also, here is the UK version, which features slightly different footage and keeps a quieter tone.

Shadowland

Photobucket

The first trailer for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows was just released and it looks like it'll be good, campy, fun all around.

Johnny Depp appears to be having a great time and, as always, it's great to see Michelle Pfeiffer in anything.

I'll bite.

A room to rest

Another gem from PostSecret....

I have a feeling that he/she is not the only who does that.

Ex-Files

Photobucket

Gillian Anderson (X-Files Agent Scully) opened up to OUT Magazine recently about some of her younger years and past relationships...

In high school, she was voted “Most Bizarre” and “Most Likely to Be Arrested.” Both descriptions, says Anderson, contained a kernel of truth, “based on how I chose to look, dress, behave, you know—the relationships I was in at the time were freaking people out.” Invited to elaborate, she begins to list them: “I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school, and then I was in a relationship with a punk rock drug addict who...”

Wait, a lesbian relationship? “Yeah, yeah, well it’s... You know, I’m old enough that I can talk about that,” she says.

Photobucket

Much of this has been written before -- how she dyed her hair purple, how she glued the school gates shut on graduation night, the drugs and alcohol -- but her lesbian romance is something new. Understandably, she is wary of making a big deal of it, precisely because it is a big deal for so many people. “If I had thought I was 100% gay, would it have been a different experience for me?” she wonders. “Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”

I think her loyal fan based just gave a collective "Squeee!"

Dueling Sarahs

Photobucket

I haven't seen Game Change yet, but I hear it's really good, did great in the ratings, and that, overall, people thought that Julianne Moore did a great job making Sarah Palin a relatable and sympathetic person throughout the election.

Here is a great comparison of the real Sarah/events and Julianne Moore as Sarah.

Has anyone else seen it and, if so, what did you think?

Hopefully this will be available OnDemand soon.

I may have to plan a trip to NYC soon.

Hi Ho, Sparrow!

Photobucket

The first photo from the upcoming Lone Ranger movie was tweeted out by Jerry Bruckheimer today.

Johnny Depp is playing Tonto and it kinda looks like they just unbraided his Jack Sparrow wig and gave him just a bit more makeup.

Oh, and a nice bird hat.

GruesomePon

Photobucket

I have "no idea" why people might consider this Groupon inappropriate:

A marketing group in Wisconsin wants to give walking tours of the bar where serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer met and hung out with some of his victims.

But when victims’ families and others found out about the tours this week through a Groupon promotion for a cut-rate tour, they started calling for the tour, which they described as insensitive and in poor taste, to end.

I'm all for enjoying a lovely Groupon deal, but I do think this particular one might be a bit hard to swallow.

So to speak.

8

Photobucket
Photobucket

There was a benefit reading of the play 8 in Los Angeles this weekend and it was streamed live on YouTube. I watched it and it was really good!

The reading—whose all-star cast included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Martin Sheen, Christine Lahti and Jamie Lee Curtis and was directed by Rob Reiner—raised more than $2 million to further the cause of securing full marriage equality at the federal level, more than double what it raised at its Sept. 19 New York premier.

Photobucket

Black’s play, which might more accurately be described as a docu-drama, is based on the actual transcripts of the closing arguments in the federal lawsuit, which ultimately overturned Proposition 8, the California initiative that stripped gays and lesbians of their state constitutional right to marry.

The performances were really good (especially George Clooney, Christine Lahti, Martin Sheen, and John C. Reilly) and it definitely keeps your attention throughout.

If you'd like to see it, clear a couple hours out one afternoon/evening, get a tasty beverage, and enlarge the video screen and enjoy (some of you kids can probably figure out how to get it to play on your TV from YouTube). The "Prop 8" commercials you'll see are part of the show...

It really makes for a nice free night at the Theater!

New Hobbit Video Blog

Photobucket

Peter Jackson has released a new video blog from the set of The Hobbit (they're now filming part 2). And, like all the others, they are great fun to watch. This one focuses on some of the beautiful locations (definitely expand the video to full screen!), one of which is Queenstown, which I have also visited.

I love watching these and wish other movies would do the same thing.

Yes, I'm talking to you Bob Orci and J.J. Abrams currently working on Star Trek 2!

Ready to Rumble

Photobucket

Photobucket

The latest trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie was released yesterday. They've definitely upped the action in this one.

Photobucket

Other than the obviously CGI'd Hulk, this looks like it's gonna be a fun movie!
