Double Doodie

Entertainment Weekly has issued two different "Star Trek" covers this week, which is nice. Although, since only one cover is mailed or for sale in any particular state or region, I can't seem to find both of them (I need the Kirk/Uhura one above).

The "helpful" EW customer service folks said that, although they printed and sold both covers, they couldn't actually confirm that I'd get the cover that I wanted...I'd just have to "take my chances and hope for the best".

I know that someone tracks those covers to see which sells better, so I don't think it should be that difficult to track down a particular cover for someone who wants to buy one. So, I'll continue to bug their customer service department and, if they don't help, then on to the corporate peeps.

Corporate offices always love to deal with little stuff like this. I imagine they look something like these disturbing Burger "King-ons"....

So, if anyone out there is able to find the Kirk/Uhura EW magazine at their local Piggly Wiggly and grab one for me...I'd really appreciate it.

A little bit of box office info: Since 91% of all online tickets for "Star Trek" on Fandango have been sold (far exceeding last weeks pre-sell of "Wolverine"), Paramount Studios moved up the opening of the film from tomorrow to TONIGHT at 7:00 pm in all theaters...so that's very cool. I already have my tickets for the midnight show tonight at the big Cinerama Dome theater in Hollywood.

I'm taking my camera in case some of the kids dress up, which is always entertaining.

Last days in Asheville

I couldn't find a good internet connection for the past couple of days, so I'm down at the library here in Tipp City, Ohio (where I grew up) sitting on a small wooden desk enjoying the free wireless internet connection.

Ahhh....

Our last couple of days in Asheville went very quickly, but were a lot of fun. If you ever get to Asheville, you definitely need to stop by the Grove Park Inn. It is a beautiful hotel and spa that has been there since the early 1900's.

The hotel was created by E.W. Grove, a man who made his millions promoting "Grove's Tasteless Chill Tonic", something that claimed to ward off the effects of Malaria.

I don't know if that print ad would fly in California (with its focus on being slim and slimmer), but it obviously worked enough for E.W. to build this amazing resort.

Although we didn't get a chance to enjoy the wonderful spa facilities, we did take the time to enjoy the decor and interesting areas of the hotel. We even rode in the elevator that is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being built inside a huge fireplace.

It's very Harry Potter-esque.

We also found out that, besides Malaria cures, Mr. Grove also peddled a very popular elixir to help with "Piles" (now people just use Preparation H). Judging by the testimonials, it appeared to give many people a great deal of relief.

PAZO really must have been a Godsend...especially for some of those people who were suffering with it for almost 30 years.

Ouch!

We also noticed that, besides many presidents and world leaders, our new airport friend, Richard Simmons, is featured as a treasured visitor.

I bet he could make millions selling PAZO to his "Sweatin' With the Oldies" followers. The collective sigh of relief in his workout rooms would likely be overwhelming.

After leaving the Inn (where Barack Obama would arrive two days later for a stay before his next debate), we took a drive into downtown Asheville. We stopped and got a refreshing beverage and walked around this vibrant little city.

There was also a great wig store that featured several popular looks of today (well, for some people)...

I can't wait to wear my new dreads to the market in LA!

After stopping by the lovely home of their other friend named Maggie (who also moved with her husband from Venice, CA less than a year before Cindy and Gaby did), we headed home, ate, slept, woke up, showered, packed, ate some more, sat, chatted, sat, ate a bit more, then took a quick photo with everyone in front of Cindy and Gaby's lovely home...

Oscar and Maggie headed back to LA and I headed to Ohio, to see my family for the week.

Be it ever so humble....

Ew, Baby

The first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming Apple TV+ series, Servant, was released today...

That was definitely NOT what I thought it would be about, based on the early photos and short teaser trailers.

But, it also looks really good and like something I'd need ANOTHER pay streaming service to view.

Devil!

For those of you who have the service, you can start watching it on November 28th.

He's a geek and a really big fan of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, even getting a cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug last year.

Here he is describing and showing his transformations for the covers on his show…

He's very entertaining and I'm more than a wee bit jealous.

Energized!

Star Trek: Discovery has been officially renewed for a third season...

EW reports that CBS has officially confirmed a third season of the show is in the works, planned to air in the U.S. on CBS All Access, Space in Canada, and on Netflix internationally in 2020.

I'm glad that it's continuing to grow and, hopefully, it'll end up on Netflix one of these days, because I still refuse to pay to watch it.

Until then, I look forward to the DVDs coming out.

Since I don't really know anything about this Marvel character...I'm just gonna have to wait until a trailer comes out at some point this year to find out more.

But, I do enjoy movies dealing with magic.

Flying Solo

EW revealed its upcoming cover featuring the new Han Solo, from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

I don't think he looks much like Harrison Ford, but the movie will probably still make a bazillion dollars anyway.

We'll find out when the film opens on May 25th.
