Here are a couple of interesting trailers that were released recently that caught my eye:
The first is called Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock. It's about a kid who loses his father during 9/11.
I like both of them, but it looks like a big box of downers.
I'll still probably see it anyway cause I sometimes enjoy a good weepy movie with a heart and Sandra Bullock.
And then there is A Joyful Noise, starring Queen Latifa and Dolly Parton. It looks like a gospel version of Sister Act.
I definitely love me some Dolly Parton and it's been a while since she's done a movie, so I hope it does well for her.
But, I will say...her plastic surgeries really stand out in this trailer and it's a bit distracting for me. I'm glad they at least acknowledge it and deal with it in the film too.

Meow
There are finally some new pics of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman from the set of the new Batman movie and they do look better than the first one...which is a good thing.
It'll be interesting to see how she compares to Michelle Pfeiffer from the earlier movies.
She's got some pretty big paws to fill.

Depp Shadows
Entertainment Weekly released the first official photo from the upcoming Dark Shadows movie today and they all look particularly chipper, don't they?
From left to right: Helena Bonham Carter (Dr Julia Hoffman, the psychiatrist...who also needs one), Chloe Moretz (Carolyn, a moody teen), Eva Green (Angelique, a witch who hates this family with a long history with Barnabas the vampire), Gulliver McGrath (David, a troubled boy who believes he sees the dead), Bella Heathcote (Victoria, the new governess), Depp (Barnabas the vampire... ancestor of this family), Ray Shirley (Mrs Johnson, the ancient maid), Jackie Earle Haley (Willie the shady groundskeeper), Jonny Lee Miller (Roger, David's father), and Michelle Pfeiffer (Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the steely matriarch under seige by witches, family troubles, and the arrival of Barnabas).
My biggest question is...when did Michelle Pfeiffer turn into Catherine Deneuve?

Bendy Phone
It looks like this new Galaxy Skin phone might just be made out of taffy....
Samsung recently unveiled Galaxy Skin, an Android smartphone that can take on different shapes and take on even hammer blows, set for a 2012 Q2 release.
Other known specs of Galaxy Skin include 1 GB RAM; 1.2 GHz processor; 8 MP rear camera and VGA front camera with auto focus, self-portrait, stop motion, action shot, and Panorama shots; and 1500 mAh battery. Connectivity-wise, it has Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n features. It will reportedly run on Android Jellybean (the next Google OS version after Ice Cream Sandwich), but there are speculations that Google will make a special version for it, namely Android Flexy.
I guess it would be easier to roll up in a ball and throw at someone.
Naomi Campbell probably has several of these on pre-order already.

Hoover
The trailer for J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio was just released...
Clint Eastwood directed it and Dame Judy Dench plays the mother...so it's got a lot going for it already.
The only thing missing is Linda Lavin.
Then, it would be a must-see.

Boo-ya!
I love it when Ellen scares people on her show and this video highlights some of her best over the years.
My favorites are Richard Simmons, Taylor Swift and the girl who thinks someone is sneaking up on her (I must have rerun that one about 20 times...crying, CRYING from laughter!).
I'm so easily amused.

Emmy Pageant
That was my favorite moment from the Emmy's last night.
When Amy Poehler quickly ran up on stage the moment her name was announced as the first Best Actress in a Comedy nominee, followed quickly by the other nominees...I laughed so loud, I'm sure my neighbors considered calling the police.
Overall, the show was entertaining. I was glad that Modern Family and Downton Abbey won several awards (Go Maggie Smith!) and I thought Jane Lynch did a dandy job as host.
Here is her big opening number if you missed it..

Pop Stars
VH1 is bringing back Pop Up Videos again, which were usually very entertaining back in the day because of all the random unrelated information that made its way into the regular details being "popped up" along the way.
Here is a new one focused on Ms. Britney Spears that reveals her distaste for fecal matters while shooting this video...

Spartacus
Very sad news over the weekend...
“On a beautiful sunny Sydney spring morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18 month battle with lymphoma cancer,” Whitfield’s wife Vashti said in a statement. “He passed peacefully surrounded by love. Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have help carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.” Whitfield was 39.
He was great on the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand...such a shame for him to pass away so young.

Dragon Con 2011
Me. Iron Man. Chillin'.
Last weekend was Dragon Con here in Atlanta and, if you wanna have a really fun geeked-out 3-day weekend surrounded by over 50,000 of your closest friends in every imaginable costumed genre of SciFi, Fantasy and Pop Culture, you should start booking your trip for 2012 now (it occurs here every Labor Day Weekend).
There is a huge parade of characters...
Irish Stormtrooper from the Clan McVeryLoud.
The Klingon Firebird of Prey
Dancing Sleestak? Come on down!
Go, Speed Racer, GO!
After the parade is finished, everyone wanders over to the various host hotels nearby to check out the myriad of costumed characters, props, and merchandise up-close and personal.
One of the few Wonder Women in attendance who actually skipped dessert over the past year.
The architecture of the hotels even fit the mood...
This video will give you a very entertaining taste of what it's like to hang out with the costumed kids at the hotels:
And lots of scantily clad girls with giant....boots.
Even my friend Pat ("fresh" from a red-eye flight from LA) got to see Ironmin (along with many Batmins, Supermins, Spidermins, Aquamins, etc).
I didn't know about Dragon Con until after I moved here, so I'm definitely planning to spend a couple days fully immersed in it next year.
What to wear....what to wear....

They've got balls
Ben and Jerry have just released their latest mouth-watering concoction....Schweddy Balls.
To celebrate the talented writers, crew and actors behind arguably television’s funniest television program, today, Ben & Jerry’s launched its newest limited-batch flavor, Schweddy Balls. The flavor is an ode to the classic “Saturday Night Live” sketch starring Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon, as hosts of the “Delicious Dish,” a National Public Radio program parody, along with Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, the fictional owner of Season’s Eatings Bakery.
The flavor, available nationwide, features Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and is loaded with fudge covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.
And what does Pete Scheddy himself, Alec Baldwin, have to say about this?
“For a long time, I thought that ‘Here Lies Pete Schweddy’ would end up on my tombstone,” said Baldwin. “Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won't go with me to the great beyond.”
It sounds like Alec is in a much better mood than he was earlier this week when he tweeted this from Starbucks...
He has a point, some Barista's can be a little bitchy.
Regardless, the "Schweddy Balls" sketch is one of the funniest SNL has ever done. Here is just a taste...
"There's no beating my balls."
Delicious.

Johnny Quest
Someone recreated the original opening to the cartoon Johnny Quest with action figures and did a pretty amazing job. Here is the original animated version:
And here is the new version:
If you sync and play them together, they practically mirror each other.
Hadji would be most pleased.

MMMBop
Rolling Stone readers picked the 10 Worst Songs of the 90's....
They're pretty spot-on.
I could go without hearing "Barbie Girl" ever again in my life and be just fine.

Move, Learn, Eat
These three short travel videos are pretty cool. Here is the description from the guy who made them...
3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage... all to turn 3 ambitious linear concepts based on movement, learning and food ....into 3 beautiful and hopefully compelling short films = a trip of a lifetime.
Now I'm hungry and want to travel.

Super Suit
This photo was enhanced with a cape by a fan with Photoshop. It will be interesting to see if the film version eventually looks the same.
Now that everyone has a camera on their phone, it's getting harder and harder for studios to keep things a secret on a set. Here are the first pictures of Henry Cavill's new Superman costume (one of several different styles, I hear).
It seems that a muscle and vein-enhanced suit has replaced the old school blue tights, utility belt, and red shorts from the Supes of yore.
I don't hate it...
I'd actually like one of those suits surgically applied to my body so I could skip going to the gym for good.
Maybe they'll just update the Underoos with latex muscle and Spanx material and answer my prayers.
Then they really would be fun to wear.
