Into The Woods trailer

 photo d3c3625a-55fd-40b8-8367-ce1a64160df3_zps712c34f1.jpg

The first trailer for Into the Woods was released today….

I've not watched the play, so am not sure what the whole thing is about. However, it has a great cast and has Maleficent-esque qualities, so I'll likely see it anyway.

I mean…Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, and Tracey Ullman.

Sold.

Space Invaders

A new trailer for Interstellar was released today and it's looking pretty interesting…

I love me some space movies and anything with John Lithgow.

It's a win-win (or a "Whin-Whin" as Stewie would say).

Certain photos are just so visually compelling and, once animation is added, also somewhat disturbing.

The top one is very Monty Python-ish.

Can't. Stop. Looking.

One Last Time

The first teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was released today after premiering at Comic-Con this past weekend...

I didn't see one wacky barrel ride down a river.

So, already it's looking better than the last part.

I'm in.

How Now Brow Cowl

The first close-up look at Ben Affleck as Batman was released at Comic-Con this week...

He looks pretty good and I like how his chin and furrowed brow seem to match.

It's all in the details, people.

Throwing Shade

 photo 0955baba-9a70-4f30-a268-9bfeef91e54f_zps8050ca32.jpg

The eagerly awaited trailer for 50 Shades of Grey was released today…

Having not read the book, my first impression of this trailer is that it looks/feels like a preview for a new season of Melrose Place, rather than this big steamy ovulation-inducing story I've heard so much about over the past couple of years.

It's definitely not 9 1/2 Weeks…feels more like 2 1/2 episodes on the CW Network.

I'm sure it'll make millions.

The first poster for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was just released and it looks like, and I may be reading too much into this, there might be a dragon in this movie that is menacing a town where archers live.

Just don't quote me on that in case I've got it all wrong.

Cherish is the word

 photo 82f38cba-a34b-408a-8d36-8ea189516d8e_zps19d85986.jpg

New episodes of The Comeback are being filmed now and will begin airing in November on HBO. A few pictures were recently released and Lisa Kudrow is looking spot-on as our beloved and bewildered Valerie Cherish.

SQUEE!

Here's a bit about the new season from a recent interview Lisa did with E!...

What can you share about the HBO dramedy she's starring in now?
It's called Seeing Red, written by Paulie G [Lance Barber].

At the end of the day, she was always OK.
She was always OK! "I didn't hear what you said, I heard something else in my head…I turned it into something else." She's crankier now, too. You know how we left off…How she got really mad at Jane—"Oh, those spider eyes!"—she got angry. She punched Paulie, she stood up for herself a little more, so we didn't go backward.

It's so cool that they got most of the original cast back including her fussy assistant/friend Mickey, the obnoxious writer, Pauly G, who she punched (and immediately threw up on), and, of course...the gal who followed her around and filmed everything....Jane.

I. Can't. Wait!!

For those of you who would like to see the first (and only) season again, Amazon is selling the DVD for only $7.39.  Seven jollars!! You're gonna wanna SEE that!

James Garner

 photo 2c22c7cb-1946-46bc-b3af-5960c8b0ce1a_zps1c179d9c.jpg

Very sad news over the weekend

James Garner, the understated, wisecracking everyman actor who enjoyed multigenerational success on both the small and big screens, has died. He was 86.

Garner starred in hit TV series almost 20 years apart -- "Maverick" in the late 1950s and "The Rockford Files" in the 1970s. He also had a notable film career, starring in such classics as "Sayonara" (1957), "The Great Escape" (1963), "The Americanization of Emily" (1964), "Grand Prix" (1966) and "Victor/Victoria" (1982), as well as the TV movies "My Name Is Bill W." (1989) and "Barbarians at the Gate" (1993). More recent films included "Space Cowboys" (2000) and "The Notebook" (2004).

He was always fun to watch in pretty much everything he did over the years.

 photo cc19929d-1d08-4dfa-be45-36d47510bf8e_zps0095ec25.jpg

I also remember how fun his Polaroid commercials were with Mariette Hartley when I was growing up.  They had a great chemistry together and, at the time, many people thought they were actually married because of it.

He will definitely be missed.

Elaine Stritch

 photo dd821063-342c-48eb-bc65-92ec0fc790b1_zpsa806348e.jpg

Very sad news today

Elaine Stritch, the brassy, tart-tongued Broadway actress and singer who became a living emblem of show business durability and perhaps the leading interpreter of Stephen Sondheim’s wryly acrid musings on aging, died on Thursday at her home in Birmingham, Mich. She was 89.

Ms. Stritch’s career began in the 1940s and spanned almost 70 years. She made her fair share of appearances in movies, including Woody Allen’s “September” (1987) and “Small Time Crooks” (2000), and on television; well into her 80s, she had a recurring role on the NBC comedy “30 Rock” as the domineering mother of the television executive played by Alec Baldwin.

One of Ms. Stritch’s most memorable appearances was in the Stephen Sondheim musical “Company”(1970), in which, as a cynical society woman, she saluted her peers with the vodka-soaked anthem “The Ladies Who Lunch.” It not only brought her another Tony nomination but became her signature tune — at least until, in her 70s, she became equally known for Sondheim’s paean to showbiz longevity and survival, “I’m Still Here.”

I loved her on 30 Rock and really want to see the documentary "Shoot Me" that was made about her last year. I have also watched her perform "The Ladies Who Lunch" countless times on video. It's amazing to watch her trying over and over to get the right take of that song for the Broadway soundtrack recording (video above).

It's crazy fascinating and you really feel thrilled for her when she finally nails it.

She will be missed.

Dame Good

A couple of interesting smaller films debuted trailers today and each have Harry Potter alumni in them. First, one with Maggie Smith called My Old Lady.

You can't go wrong with Maggie Smith.

 photo 8bb35bb1-3cee-4fd0-8f82-562431510132_zps516e48a4.jpg

The next is with Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, in the movie Horns.

It looks like Harry has gotten himself into a wee bit of trouble in this one.

I wonder what Maggie Smith thinks about that...

Leaked Star Wars footage

Well...that's what the folks who made this video had some people believing...

The effects are pretty convincing and, although it's not real...I kinda wish it was.

The ladies of Downton Abbey are looking regal on the cover of the latest issue of Bazaar.

I think the Dowager Countess would be very pleased.

Roughing It

 photo 9e85a9d4-ced5-416a-bf6e-d9b5a597df73_zps2b359b91.jpg

I'm heading up to the wilderness to go camping with friends for a few days.

And by "camping", I mean my single cabin in the campground with the queen bed and air-conditioning doesn't have a bathroom, cable, or Wifi.

It's like the dark ages.

Don't judge.
