Florence Henderson, known to generations of television viewers as Carol Brady, matriarch of the ABC sitcom The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974 and subsequently an enduring pop culture icon for nearly 50 years, has died. She was 82. Though best known for her famous sitcom role, Henderson, born in Dale, Indiana in 1934, had a varied career that included acclaimed stage performances, numerous other television appearances, and film roles. Her big break came while still a drama student in New York City at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where after a one-line role in Wish You Were Here, she was cast in the touring production of Oklahoma! in 1952. She would later originate the lead role in Fanny beginning in 1954. Henderson worked steadily as a Broadway star over the 50s and 60s and moved into television. Among her most notable accomplishments, she was the first woman to guest-host The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. She also was a regular during the 1960s on NBC’s Today. She landed her most famous role in 1969, starring for five years on The Brady Bunch. Despite its relentlessly cheerful tone and aggressively unthreatening aesthetic despite the tumultuous period in which it aired, the show was groundbreaking for being among the earliest examples of a blended family on television in the United States.
She had an amazing career that spanned decades doing something she loved, was enjoyed and respected my millions world-wide and, those who knew her, only spoke very highly of her.
Netflix and Legendary’s upcoming reboot of Lost in Space is still over a year away, but we’re very excited about the latest addition to the cast: Parker Posey has signed on to play Doctor Smith! The new Lost in Space will retain the same basic premise of the original series with a modernized tone and updated characters. In Irwin Allen’s classic show from 1965, the Robinson family of space explorers found themselves hopelessly adrift in the universe thanks to the sabotage of Doctor Zachary Smith. Unfortunately for Dr. Smith, he was unable to escape the Robinson’s ship, the Jupiter 2, before he was trapped on board as well.
I, for one, am very excited about this news. Parker Posey is awesome in just about anything she does and she's always fun to watch.
And to the purists who are complaining that a man should have been cast in this role...
The first trailer for Luc Besson's (Fifth Element and Lucy) new Sci-Fi movie, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, was just released today....
It looks pretty epic and colorful, like his other movies. He said this is the Sci-Fi movie he's always wanted to create...so let's hope it's as awesome as it looks.
In honor of the Cubs winning the World Series (Go, Cubs, Go!), the city decided to dye the river blue, in honor of the team and to go along with the celebration festivities that occurred today.
It's likely the only time in history that this river has ever looked remotely blue.
The new Wonder Woman trailer was released today....
It really makes the movie look like a fun adventure with some beautiful cinematography...not nearly as dark/dour as Batman v Superman, thankfully.
I also like the funny secretary. She's enjoyable.
The movie opens on June 9th.
Someone also did an edit of the 70's Wonder Woman show to match the new Wonder Woman movie trailer and it's pretty awesome how they were able to find so many clips that actually work...
