Catherine E. Coulson, who played the Log Lady on David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” TV series and was set to return to the new Showtime version, died Monday morning of cancer. She was 71. Coulson, who also worked as a camera assistant, reprised the Log Lady role in the feature “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” and more recently, she appeared on an episode of “Portlandia” and in the film “Redwood Highway.” Lynch said in a statement, “Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson. Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends — she was filled with love for all people — for her family — for her work. She was a tireless worker. She had a great sense of humor — she loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady.”
It's such a shame that she passed before being able to rejoin the Twin Peaks cast for the new episodes that start filming soon. She was definitely one of the most memorable odd characters on the show.
American Horror Story: Hotel released their official poster today. It looks like there will be some very cool art-deco architecture to look at while all the murdering and mayhem is going on.
So...I find that to be a plus.
The new series premieres on Wednesday October 7th.
The Internets were all abuzz yesterday over a photo of Christina Ricci posing as Morticia Addams from The Addams Family movies in the 90's (where she played the youngest daughter, Wednesday).
Although it turned out to be a crafty photoshopped image, there has certainly been a sudden renewed interest in Christina Ricci possibly playing that role in the future.
Stranger things have happened...
Carrot Top gets my vote to play Cousin Itt.
And speaking of extreme changes....today is the first day of fall.
So, time to pack away the Tube Tops until next year.
A new trailer for the Peanuts Movie was released today....
This one looks better than the first, which was a bit too focused on the new, kinda creepy, 3D/CGI animated characters. I think this did a better job giving viewers an overall look at the film and story, while focusing a bit more on everyone's favorite characters doing what they do best...rolling their eyes at Charlie Brown.
This video of a young twenty-something couple about to get married who allow themselves to be aged several decades from their 20's into their 90's, while getting to see each other and comment about each iteration, is surprisingly insightful and very touching.
What I loved most was how much they laughed and commented on how "they" had aged and how they felt about the other each time. They seemed so sincere and genuinely touched (especially the last couple transformations) as they discussed what life might be like for them then.
I also loved (in the 70's reveal) how she said to him "I hope I'm taking better care of your hair at this age."
Hilarious.
And I definitely didn't cry at all towards the end.
Several smaller movies are coming out that, from their trailers, look really good and should probably be added to your must-see list as Fall and Winter approach.
The first, is a movie called The Room (based on the popular book)...about a boy raised in a single room who believes that is all there is of the world, until he and his mother escape their captor and have to integrate into society.
The Room opens November 6th.
The second is The Danish Girl, based on the true story of the first male to successfully have gender-reassignment surgery.
The Danish Girl opens November 27th.
The third is a movie called Youth, starring Michael Caine. The cinematography looks beautiful and the story looks quite endearing.
Youth opens December 4th.
And the fourth, is a movie called Carol, starring Cate Blanchett as a socialite in a loveless marriage who falls for a local shop girl.
Carol opens November 20th.
So....LOTS of quiet/thought-provoking movies coming up with great casts to give your brain a distraction from the usual Crash-Boom of the action/adventure movies that have been clogging the theaters the past few months.
Your ears and heart will certainly appreciate the break.
The visual effects team behind Game of Thrones has released a new behind-the-scenes look at some of the amazing imagery that they put together for the past season...
It's pretty cool to see how much thought and artistry goes into making a normal landscape or building appear to be so much more in, what is often, just a few seconds of screen time.
As you can see from this tweet from the set, a new Bourne Identity movie just started filming yesterday (with Matt Damon once again reprising his role as Jason Bourne).
For a product that would seem almost impossible to market to the masses (yet benefits everyone), I have to say Poo-Pourri has done an outstanding job finding hilarious ways to promote their pre-toilet spray.
Here is one of their commercials...
OMG...so funny!
Of course, I have the mind of a 13 year-old kid, so that might explain my enjoyment of this subject matter. The commercials alone are worth it for the colorful wordplay...I've definitely learned a few new terms to bring up at parties.
If you'd like to see some of their other, equally hilarious, commercials...click here.
And, as you can imagine, there are a variety of bloopers from filming this kind of commercial. So...enjoy.
FYI...it really does work. We had this product at work and I can honestly say, when someone used it I often thought the room smelled like a spa afterwards.
The studio just released the official poster for the next James Bond movie, Spectre.
I think the skeleton graphic in the back is oddly distracting and kinda cheap-halloween-suit looking. Hopefully it's not just a crazy way for them to bring Judi Dench's character, M, back to life for the movie.
Although, even as a skeleton, she'd still out-act the rest of the cast around her.
