MTV Movie Rewards

charlize-theron-joe-manganiello-pg708742

I forgot to record the MTV Movie Awards last night because I was out seeing Charlize Theron (above) in Snow White and the Huntsman (which I really enjoyed).

However, it appears that Joe Manganiello arrived in his Sunday best to present an award with his Magic Mike co-stars...

Those "spontaneous" podium bits almost always fail and, although this one ranks right up there with the rest, I fully support them using Joe for all future impromptu sketches.

Practice makes perfect, ya' know.

The Shannara Chronicles

 photo cfd9cac0-b201-4924-9d41-69d3e0132f93_zpsulxbdiug.jpg

I didn't think the day would ever come again when I would utter the phrase "I can't wait to see that show on MTV!".

However, after watching this cool new trailer for their upcoming SciFi series The Shannara Chronicles...I'm definitely wanting my MTV again.

It looks kind of like Game of Thrones, mixed with a little Lord of the Rings (it was filmed in New Zealand as well), with just a pinch of Jupiter Ascending.

Plus, it's about elves...which I always enjoy.

I'm in!

The Shannara Chronicles premieres on MTV January 16, 2016.

You may now eat the bride

Does this cake make me look fat?

JoeMyGod had written about this great site, CakeWrecks, that highlights weird cakes that people have created for various events. Some of them are hilarious, like the one above of a wedding cake made in the exact image (wedding dress and all) and size of the bride.

Wouldn't it be kind of creepy to actually cut into it at the ceremony? I wonder if they saved the head and put it in the freezer to eat at a later date?

Uggghhh....

While trolling through YouTube yesterday for Estelle Getty clips, I randomly did a search for a music video that I was cast in YEARS ago, when I was a young struggling actor. And, as is the norm with YouTube....I found it.

Unfortunately, the quality of their video isn't very good, so here is a link to a clearer version on MTV.com.

You'll just have to hit your back button to come back to the blog (for some reason, they supply the embed code, but once you add the code and the player is embeded in your site, it says "Only available on MTV.com", then makes you go to their site to view it. Doesn't make any sense...).

I haven't seen it in a long time and, after watching it again, it reminds me how quickly time flies. I was probably all of 22 or 23 at the time and it was one of my first "acting" jobs, so I was excited.

I mean, all the kids were watching MTV videos at the time.

It was for Don Felder (a former member of The Eagles) and, I suppose, it was a solo album of his at the time. I play the innocent milkman (which is odd, since I don't think there were any actual men delivering milk in the 80's) who picks up the two "bad girls" towards the end of the video and then drives them back to their hotel.

Of course, Cheech Marin is in it...so you just KNEW it was gonna be a hit.

Not so much...

More Shannara

 photo f9983f62-f446-43a4-9f30-2448e38a0e0a_zpscir7axzz.jpg

Good news from MTVThe Shannara Chronicles has been renewed for a second season...

MTV has ordered a second season of The Shannara Chronicles, its adaptation of the international best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks.

The Shannara Chronicles follows a trio of heroes who’ve embarked on a quest to stop a demon army bent on destroying humanity’s world. It stars Poppy Drayton as Amberle, an Elvin Princess; Invana Baquero as Eretria, a Human Rover; and Austin Butler as Wil, a Half-Elf, Half-Human.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. The acting isn't Lord of the Rings-worthy, but the cinematography, effects and makeup are pretty outstanding.

I am looking forward to them announcing the Season 2 premiere date at some point in the future.

MTV turns 30

They went from 24 hours of non-stop music television...to showing no music videos and, instead, introducing us to the likes of Snooki.

I don't really want my MTV anymore.

She bangs

Chelsea is gonna host MTV's Video Music Awards this year...

Chelsea Handler, who just announced tonight on her E! talk show that she’s hosting the Sept. 12 event, should provide plenty of morning-after quotables for the blogosphere. So why did MTV choose her? “This has been a huge year for hip-hop and rap, and it is well-known that I have the closest ties with these communities — musically and sexually,”

I can't wait to see that...she is one of the funniest women on TV these days. Plus, for anyone who didn't already know, she's now dating animal trainer, Dave Salmoni.

SalMOni.

Here is a clip of him on her show...

I bet they have a lot of relations.

It has begun...

MTV released a new extended trailer for The Shannara Chronicles at Comic-Con in NYC this weekend...

I'm really looking forward to this, so I hope it doesn't suck. But, if the series is half as good as this trailer...I think I'm gonna be all good.

The 2-hour series premiere is on January 5th at 10pm.

MTV released new key art for their upcoming Shannara Chronicles series today. If the show is anywhere near as good as the trailer, we're gonna be in for a pretty awesome new adventure series.

Here is a great behind-the-scenes look...

Can't wait!!

Spike TV released the first trailer for the second season of The Shannara Chronicles today...

I really enjoyed the first season, so am hoping this new one holds up, now that it has moved from MTV to Spike.

Kanye Pest

I didn't see the MTV Video Music Awards last night, but all the kids were talking about it today on the Interbots. Seems that Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech so that he could tell people that he thought that Beyonce had the best video of all time.

Kanye = Asshat.

The look on Taylor's face after he leaves...she looks crushed, embarrassed and just walks off. Poor thing...

Thankfully, Beyonce allowed Taylor to come out and give her full speech, rather than doing her own for an award she had just won.

Beyonce is a class act and I'm very thankful that she didn't wear Lady Gaga's face-wreath last night.

Since the award show is broadcast internationally, word spread quickly and, when Hitler found out about what Kanye did, well...he couldn't contain himself.

I think he pretty much said it all.

I had almost forgotten that President Obmama had a similar problem with Kanye last week during his healthcare speech...

Kanye is lucky that he was already booked to be on the premiere of Jay Leno's new show tonight.

Jay Leno couldn't have planned a better ratings-windfall to get people to watch tonight.

Or did he?

What to wear?

If you're Madonna going to the MTV Awards, evidently you just throw on a bathrobe and EVERY piece of jewelry you have in your collection and bolt out the door.

I'm no fashionista, but even I know that less is much often better than more.

The Situation

This is Mike.

He refers to his abs as "the situation".

My abs, on the other hand, are a completely different situation altogether.

I haven't seen MTV's new reality show, "Jersey Shore", but I can't seem to go anywhere online without seeing a picture, quote or clip from it. Apparently, it's about a group of young whoring guidos and guidettes living in a place together on the, get this...Jersey Shore.

The boys, more than the girls, seem to be getting the most publicity and, I imagine, it's because of their bulging...personalities.

Mike is the breakout star of the show and he appears to be more confident than anyone should be, yet, like all of us, he just wants to be loved and...is that so wroooooong? Take this quote he gave E! about his gay fans...

"I'll be honest, I like the attention [from gay men]. I'm flattered if there are guys with different preferences that have crushes on me."

I wonder how he feels about the guys with different preferences who like wearing diapers and drinking out of a bottle having a crush on him?

Even I'm not that open-minded.

Of course, none of the guidos are actually gay, which is probably a good thing. Apparently the boys already fight with the girls over time in the bathroom to do their hair. If they were all gay, the house would need a lot more mirrors, closets and hair gel to keep everyone from having a meltdown.

Speaking of hair...

This is DJ Pauly D who, according to his bio, orders gel by the case and does his hair twice a day. That's not gay, it's just...practical. Here he is, I assume, wishing his straight friend "good luck" before a date with a girl with big hair and store-bought hooters.

Again, not gay. It's just bro-support.

And we all know that support can be beautiful.

This is Ronnie.

According to his bio, he is just a lover who wants to have a good time.

Ronnie might want to spend a little more time with his roommate, Pauly D.

As much as I hate these kinds of reality shows for showcasing and promoting the grossest possible stereotypes of humanity who likely signify the end of civilization as we know it (and that goes for "Flava of Love" and all versions of "Housewives" from any city), I can't help but think they should do "Santa Monica Shores" and feature some famous D-list Hollywood guidos living in a foreclosed condo on the beach. The casting possibilities are endless...

Tony Danza hasn't done "Dancing with the Stars" yet, so they could probably get him for a song and a dance (and he likes doing both of those).

Richard "Booker" Grieco could probably use a break from his European singing career (I have one of those too) and straight-to-DVD movies for some quality time in the surf and sand.

Joey "Whooaaa!" Lawrence did do "Dancing with the Stars", but has obviously had to suppliment his income since by bartending at the "Slippery Fist". So, I'm sure they could snag him for a couple weeks of bro-bonding.

And, of course, they'd have to get Antonio Sabato Jr.

Athough he did do "My Antonio" last year, I doubt his search for true love ended up being all he thought it would be when he started looking for it, as we all do, during eight grueling weeks on camera.

He's obviously comfortable with the beach, hair gel and flexing...

I'm sensing a Matriarch...

I need to call my agent.

New Moon, indeed!

"Twilight" ruled the MTV Awards last night ("shocking") and, along with that, the audience was treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming sequel, "New Moon" with the freshly pumped (and almost dumped from the sequel), Taylor Lautner.

The trailer and wolf are a bit cheesy, but I'll wait until I see the movie in November before I start slamming it. I didn't expect to like the first movie near as much as I did...so, we'll see.

Also during the show, Eminem was treated to a much different type of lunar experience, courtesy of "Bruno".

I howled.

Joan Rivers

 photo ae71cd22-d591-4f49-b1d6-e095f1733d4e_zpsde6a8264.jpg

Some very sad news yesterday….

Joan Rivers, a pioneering female stand-up comic and the queen of "Can We Talk?" gossip, has died. She was 81.

Raspy-voiced and brassy, Rivers was always self-deprecating, foul-mouthed and politically incorrect. A master of reinvention, she endured in show business because of her tenacious work ethic — which she credited to her "immigrant mentality."

No topic was off limits. From Elizabeth Taylor to Queen Elizabeth to even Anne Frank, Rivers loved going after public figures. "I mock everybody, regardless of race, creed or color," she told the Toronto Star in July. "Every joke I make, no matter how tasteless, is there to draw attention to something I really care about."

A famously hard-working dynamo, she was nowhere near close to retirement. She worked the red carpets for the MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmys near the end of August and had been scheduled to appear at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, on Aug. 29. She co-hosted "Fashion Police," starred in WE TV's reality series "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?" and hosted two online shows, "In Bed With Joan" and "Drunken Celebrity Phone Calls."

She has always been one of my favorite comediennes and was someone I tried to watch as often as I could over the years, especially in her earlier days. She slayed me! I even managed to sell her a couple jokes at one point in my life, which was a big personal highlight for me during my acting/writing days.

Regardless of whether you liked her or not, there's no denying that she worked very hard to get to where she ended up in her amazing and, very often, hilariously entertaining career.

She will definitely be missed.
