Gary Coleman

Photobucket

Sad news today...

Former child star Gary Coleman, who rose to fame as the wisecracking youngster Arnold Jackson on the TV sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" but grew up to grapple with a troubled adulthood, has died. He was 42.

Photobucket

Coleman died of a brain hemorrhage at a Provo, Utah, hospital, Friday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The actor fell ill at his Santaquin, Utah, home Wednesday evening and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, Coleman's spokesman had said in a statement earlier Friday.

Photobucket

He certainly lived an interesting life and, in the 70's and 80's, was a worldwide star. It's unfortunate that his later years were filled with such drama and strife.

The kids on that show really had a tough time after it was cancelled...

Toot Sweet

Photobucket
Chelsea Handler talked about this "Better Marriage Blanket" last night on her show and I thought it was just a funny joke.

Turns out...it's not.

Genius!

My Christmas shopping just got a whole lot easier...

Stormy Weather

Photobucket
I love me some Paul Lynde as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched...or as anyone on any show for that matter.

He was simply one of the funniest actors on the planet and, no matter where you happen upon him in reruns, he's always hilarious.

So, when I came upon this clip of him guest-hosting the weather on a local Toledo news station in 1978, I had to post it. The dated newscaster clothing and hair is already a hoot...but watching Paul attempt to deal with all the "fancy technology" of the time is classic.

Lordy...he kills me.

Galactic Munchies

Photobucket
Scientists have discovered a sun-like star that is slowly eating a planet...

Astronomers knew that stars were capable of swallowing planets in orbit around them, but this is the first time the event has been "seen" so clearly. The researchers say the planet, which is called Wasp-12b, may only have another 10 million years left before it is completely devoured.

Kinda scary, but 10 million years is plenty of time to do just about everything on your bucket list.

The only planet-eater I can remember hearing about was the one featured on the original Star Trek TV series.

Photobucket
However, it doesn't so much fill me with fear and dread as it reminds me of something else...

Photobucket

And, when you add some vanilla cream...it looks something like this:

Photobucket

So, if I found out that a fleet of these were heading towards Earth, I would simply strap on my feed-bag, look up into the sky and say...well, I think Star Trek's George Takei pretty much sums it up...

Delicious!

Lost: In Translation

Photobucket
I have to say that, with the exception of the episode where Gary died on thirtysomething (and the funeral episode that followed) and the last six minutes of Six Feet Under, I don't think I've cried as much throughout an episode of a TV show like I did last night while watching the finale of Lost.

Overall, I really liked the way that the show ended and was genuinely moved by almost every single reunion "ah-ha" moment each cast member experienced. On a variety of spiritual, philosophical and emotional levels, I was really pleased.

Photobucket

Of course, I have a GAZILLION questions that I'd like to have answered and/or explained. It's taking all of my willpower to stop myself from going to just "one more" Web site to read just "one more" set of comments from people to find out what they think it all meant. It's fascinating to me how vastly different people react to and interpret the same experience.

I love it.

Hopefully, one day soon, Oprah or Chelsea Handler will get the creators together and just have a big ole "Lost: WTF?" interview and finally let us know some of those answers.

Until then, I'm just going to go to one more site and see what these people have to say....

I'll take a case

This is kinda mean...but it's also pretty funny.

Photobucket
Talk about a product that would sell like hotcakes (and who doesn't enjoy hotcakes)!

Also...this Sunday is THE series finale of "Lost".

Photobucket
I doubt that they're not gonna be able to answer all of the questions that they have managed to fill our brains with over the years, so I'm just gonna be hopeful that they at least provide some kind of satisfying ending to this whole mystery.

If they don't...I'm gonna flash-sideways and smack'em upside their flash-backside.

Pu Pu Platter, anyone?

Photobucket
Towleroad posted this hilarious story about a Florida girl who got her driver's license back to find that her mailing address wasn't quite accurate...

"Ashlee Lineberger of Englewood recently mailed in her $48 renewal fee for a new license and when she got her new state-issued ID back in the mail, she noticed that she was no longer from Englewood. The license said she lived in 'Eat Ass,' Florida."

I think I've heard of Eat Ass, Florida...isn't it right next to Fart Lauderdale?

Good Night, everybody! I'll be here all week long!

Tip the waiters...try the veal.

Jane and Katie

Photobucket
Katie Couric interviewed Jane "Sue Sylvester" Lynch for 30 minutes on @KatieCouric. It's a really good piece and they cover a lot of fun topics (the making of the "Vogue" video, Jane's career, her upcoming marriage).

So, put down your megaphone, sit back and enjoy.

Cool or Creepy?

Photobucket

This chart certainly gives me a bit more dating-leeway than I would normally allow myself. And, since it's in a graph format...we all know that it has to be accurate.

So, it looks like it would be socially unacceptable for Valerio Pino (38) to date Joan Rivers (76).

Ricky Martin must be so relieved.

However, I'm guessing that Michael Douglas (66) is keeping this chart far away from Catherine Zeta-Jones (39)...

Rivers' Edge

Photobucket

I'm looking forward to the new documentary "A Piece of Work" that comes out June 12th. It covers a year in the life of the always-entertaining Joan Rivers.

I've been a big fan of hers for many years and, from the trailer, it looks like it's gonna be filled with a variety of nice personal moments in between all the usual bawdy behavior and jokes we would expect.

Enjoyable.

Mr. Martin?

Photobucket

Ever since Ricky Martin came out last month, there has been a bit more media focus on who he might be dating. According to JustJared, it is quite possible that he has been seeing Italian model Valerio Pino for a while.

This picture of the two of them together came out a year or so ago and really sent the rumor-mill into a speculation frenzy.

Photobucket

It looks like a nice relaxing day at the beach to me.

Photobucket

Here is a fun video of a photo shoot that Valerio did recently and, I have to admit...he does seem very naturally charming.

If they are dating...I fully support them.

It's not often that two such homely-looking guys are fortunate enough to find each other in this crazy beauty-centric world.

"Bitter Party of one...your table is ready."

I'll be right there...

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Photobucket

A friend sent me this entertaining blog posting about the new White Castle scented candle...

White Castle earlier this month announced the launch of its very own scented candle, an absolutely legitimate product which has the goal of spreading White Castle love while making your house smell pretty much like a delightful bouquet of abandoned onions and my grandparents’ kitchen.

White Castle is a fast-food superpower which sells small, fun-sized hamburgers at the reasonable price of $4.99 for a million. You can eat 2 to 30 of them at a time, depending on how much mashing you can accomplish.

If you are walking into White Castle you are doing so for one purpose only: Without food, you’ll die.

Although I have never had the pleasure of visiting one of these artery-hardening establishments, I have certainly heeded the call to shove food in my pie-hole after consuming one or twelve adult beverages in the wee hours.

And, if my usual late-night haunts are any indicator, I would assume that the White Castle scented candle would likely smell like an explosive combination of the following specialty scents already available...

I think the only ingrediant that is possibly missing from this mix would be the fresh scent of a moist stagnant mop bucket.

Don't worry...I'm on it.

Two Queens

Photobucket

That has to be one of the most realistic wax figures I've ever seen.

I honestly thought the wax figure on the left was the real Helen Mirren when I first saw the image.

She could probably get away with traveling in the carpool lane with herself as long as it was overcast during the drive.

Otherwise...what a world...what a world...

Locked and Loaded

Photobucket

Having a lock like this on the front door would certainly make getting into the house after a late night of drinking SO much easier.

I wonder if they sell them in bulk?

Weekend Update

Photobucket

I think that Betty White did a dandy job on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. She looked great and was in almost every sketch that night (much more than her additional co-stars combined). If you missed the show, you can see each of the sketches by clicking here.

Photobucket

It was certainly one of their funniest shows (and one of their top rated) in a long time. I enjoyed the "Lawrence Welk" opening featuring the creepy sister with the tiny hands and big forehead, the "She's a Lesbian" sketch (Amy Poehler's dialog in that one was really funny "Oh, crackers!") and, of course, my favorite of them all was the NPR "Muffin" sketch.

"If there's one thing I'm known for...it's my muffin."

Hilarious!

There were also four additional sketches that didn't make it into the final show, believe it or not (and Betty was in three of them). A "Debby Downer", "Bronx Talk", and Molly Shannon's "Joyologist". If you'd like to see those, click here.

Definitely a fun show all-around.

Photobucket

Iron Man 2 made 133.6 million dollars over the weekend. Not too shabby at all.

I saw it and, although it's not as good as the first one (they could have easily shaved off about 20 minutes), it certainly was entertaining.

If you enjoyed number one, you'll like number two too...as well...also...hello?

Photobucket

On a sad note, legendary singer Lena Horne passed away on Sunday....

Singer, dancer and actress Lena Horne died at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Sunday night, a hospital spokeswoman said. Horne was 92.

She was one of the first African-Americans to sign a long-term movie contract with a major Hollywood studio when she joined MGM in 1942.

Horne's expressive voice made her a singing star after Hollywood failed to give her roles that might have made her a big screen starlet.

She will definitely be missed.

Iron Betty

Photobucket

There are two big entertainment events going on this weekend...

I'm looking forward to watching Betty White host Saturday Night Live tomorrow night. I think it's great that the whole Facebook campaign was able to motivate Lorne Michaels to bring her on as host. She's really having a good year and I couldn't be happier for her.

Photobucket

Plus, it'll be fun to see some of my favorite ex-Livers like Molly Shannon (here's hoping there's a Mary Katherine Gallagher skit), Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (hopefully she'll show up on "Weekend Update").

You go, girls!

Photobucket

And, of course, Iron Man 2 opens today.

If it's even half as good as the first one, I think I'll enjoy it.

Exciting!

Web Therapy: Season 3

Photobucket
Lisa Kudrow is back as online therapist Fiona Wallace for another hilariously awkward season of  Web Therapy. Here is a behind-the-scenes clip of what to expect this year...

In these two episodes, Fiona is forced to get some "real" therapy from her equally-dysfunctional sister (played by Julia Louis Dreyfus), a licensed therapist.

Two of my favorite actresses doing what they do best....bringing on the funny.

I wish someone would put them in a movie together.

It would be sheer heaven.

World Cups

Looks like I have another magazine to pick up next week along with Interview...

Photobucket

Cristiano Rinaldo and several of his international soccer friends will be gracing the pages of the June Vanity Fair issue. I doubt that having Cristiano and his pal only wearing underwear on the cover will have "any" noticeable affect on sales...

Photobucket

There is also a behind-the-scenes video of the photo-shoot, if you'd like to watch the kids do all of their kicking and stretching in front of the camera.

For those of you who might have missed my previous posting on Cristiano's Armani ads...

Say what you will about her, the 51-year-old gal still looks great and knows how to keep her career rolling no matter how "in or out" she may appear to be at any given time.

Georgy Girl

Photobucket

Sad news today:

Actress Lynn Redgrave died Sunday after a seven-year battle with breast cancer, according to her family.

The star of stage, film and television was twice nominated for an Academy Award: for best actress in 1966 for her role in "Georgy Girl" and for best supporting actress in the 1998 film "Gods and Monsters."

She is the younger sister of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and the aunt of the late actress Natasha Richardson.

She will be missed...
