Oh, it's ON!
The Heat opens today and it's a RIOT!
I saw a sneak preview a few weeks ago and will have to go see it again because there were so many funny moments, that the laughter ran over the next funny lines. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are just so damn funny together.
If you like either of these gals...you should not miss it.
Here is the trailer...
Also, here is a great video bit that Sandra Bullock did last year with Chelsea Handler.
It's really funny.
OMG...they slay me!

A Magical Day in History
The Supreme Court's rulings today on DOMA and Prop 8 have really brought a tremendous amount of joy to a lot of people in our country today.
I mean, look how happy these two guys are about it...
"What's everybody looking at?"
"Nothing...NOTHING!"

Activate!!
Yes...those are the Wonder Twins, Zan and Janya, action figures that arrived today at my house.
Squeeeee!
I had no idea that any were ever made, but came across an article this week about a limited edition set from DC that were only available for the kids who went to Comic-Con in 2009. So, naturally...I had to find a set.
Unfortunately, their odd sidekick, Gleek, was not part of this set. He was sold separately that day, so I'll eventually track him down.
They come in a cool box and, when you bring the two figures together in the box...you hear them say "Wonder Twin Powers, activate!" and such. Here is a video someone did to demonstrate that...
"Let's save those kids!"
I've often wished there was there was an eagle carrying a bucket of water nearby to "save" (ie: drop on) some rowdy kids...usually when I'm at the grocery store or in a movie theater.
If only....

Smaugglers
Empire Magazine revealed their new upcoming cover art today, which is focused on the elves in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
I'm glad they're starting to promote Evangeline Lily (playing elf warrior Tauriel) more now that the second movie is prepping to open in December.
Honestly, the elves are my favorite part of the movies/books. They have the coolest clothes, live in the most beautiful city, and they have bouncin' and behavin' hair and pointed ears.
It's really a win-win all the way around.
Lucky pointy-eared bastards.

Summer Begins
In honor of the first day of summer, I thought I'd post these new pics of Joe Manganiello relaxing outdoors, from his recent Men's Health magazine spread.
Don't just stand there...
Get outside and enjoy the weekend, everyone!

James Gandolfini and Slim Whitman
Some very surprising and sad news yesterday...
James Gandolfini, best known for his role as an anxiety-ridden mob boss on HBO's "The Sopranos," died Wednesday while on vacation in Italy. He was 51.
Gandolfini's acting credits included roles in "The Last Castle" with Robert Redford, "The Mexican" with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, and "Surviving Christmas" with Ben Affleck. In recent years, he had starred in several movies, including the Oscar-nominated "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" and "Killing Them Softly."
He will certainly be remembered for his iconic role on The Sopranos. You definitely did not want to mess with that character.
Also, another passing yesterday...
Slim Whitman, the high-pitched yodeling county music singer whose productive career spanned decades, died Wednesday, his son-in-law told CNN. He was 90.
Whitman gained fame in Europe as well as the United States. "Love Song of the Waterfall," which a Country Music Television biography calls his "breakthrough" hit, was released in the early '50s. His next single "Indian Love Call" brought him stardom, according to the bio.
His music was featured in the 1996 film "Mars Attacks!" In the film, the sound of Whitman's "Indian Love Call" made the heads of invading Martians explode.
I will always remember his song "Una Paloma Blanca" because it was featured prominently on his endlessly running late-night commercial for one of his albums in the 80's. You know the ones...they seem to run every commercial break after midnight.
Una Paloma blanca...ahh...Ahhhhhhhh!
That yodel is always in my mind somewhere...and always makes me laugh.
They will both be missed.

Wig Struck
Cher performed the first single off of her upcoming album, Closer to the Truth, last night on the finale of The Voice. She also gave a nice half hour interview before the show, which you can watch here (the first minute or so of the interview reveals the lyrics to the song A Woman's World, which she sang).
She was certainly very calm/collected during the interview and actually seemed to be enjoying herself. At 67, perhaps she's mellowed out just a bit from previous years.
Well...she hasn't mellowed out that much.
Not sure what possessed her to strap on two Carrot Top wigs and a pair of Bieber-crotchless-pants for her performance on the show, but she's Cher.
She doesn't care what anyone thinks.
And that's the way we like her.
Here is her performance on The Voice last night....

SuperBoy TV Series?
I have always watched a lot of television. Probably more than any sane person should admit to. Of course, sanity is overrated.
However, until today after looking over various articles on Man of Steel (which I really enjoyed), I had never heard of the TV series The Adventures of Superboy that ran from 1988-1992.
How did I miss this?
It was even produced by the same people who made the Christopher Reeve Superman movies and I LOVED those (well, at least the first two).
It just boggles my mind that I've never even heard of the show and I used to watch anything on TV that had Superheroes...
Batman
Wonder Woman
The Super Friends
The Flash
Smallville
The Greatest American Hero
The Man from Atlantis
Lois and Clark
Bigfoot and Wildboy
The Secrets of Isis
Shazam
The Amazing Spiderman
Birds of Prey
\
The Bugaloos
UltraMan
The Hulk
Electra Woman and Dyna Girl
Even this horrible live TV Special: The Legends of the Superheroes.
So, I ask you again...how did I miss The Adventures of Superboy over the course of four years on TV?
Seriously...I need to know.

Tanked Top
I'm certainly no fashionista, but even I think that this new look for guys isn't very marketable...
London designer Astrid Andersen has found a loophole to "No Shirt, No Service" caveats: a male crop top cropped so high, it also shows nipples. So it's sort of a shrug?
Crop tops for men: potentially more versatile than crop tops for women, as men are allowed to show belly and boobs. However, since disparate gender expectations tend to stunt creativity in the field of baring male flesh, the male crop top may never reach its full potential. Hats (and shirts) off to Astrid Andersen's men's spring/summer 2014 collection for this valiant effort.
I mean, sleeveless shirts for guys have been around for ages, but the shirtless-sleeves trend isn't going to work for anyone who doesn't have abs-of-steel.
And, let's be honest....if this look takes off, we're gonna end up seeing Simon Cowell sporting one on the new season of The X Factor and we all know what the world's response will be...

Super Friday
Man of Steel opens today (and I've already got tickets to see it on Sunday)!!
I'm trying to keep my expectations low, just so I'm not disappointed like I was with Star Trek Into Darkness. However, the reviews have been pretty good overall, so that's encouraging.
In honor of its opening, I give you some images of Wonder Woman spinning.
Although she is in the DC Universe, she has nothing to do with this movie (at least not to my knowledge), so I've posted them for the sole reason that...they make me laugh.
Oh...and we can't forget the cape (for special occasions, like...the opening of Man of Steel)!
I love the "hair-flip" she does before walking off in the last one.
And for the pure Spin-addicts, my friend Roland sent me this video...the slow-motion spins from the first season (ALL of them).
Headband...check!
Gold shiny belt...check!
And then she heads out wondering what to do with her neatly folded clothes.
Entertaining.

300: Rise Of An Empire trailer
The trailer for the upcoming sequel to 300 was released yesterday...
Gerard Butler (the lead in the first movie) might not fare as well in this one.
But, it looks like his wife inherited his swords...and his army.
And Sparta Fitness really noticed a spike, so to speak, in memberships during this new war...
The "Sword and Shield" Step Class is always packed...
That's usually when I just go and get a smoothie and then head back to the treadmill to watch House Hunters on the monitor.
It's not nearly as bloody.
Well...most viewings anyway.
