Freaks and Geeks: The Movie

There is a new documentary by Morgan Spurlock (he directed Supersize Me) coming out later this year that is all about the crazy world of Comic-Con, which is held each year in San Diego.



Here is a little bit about it:

Have you ever imagined a place where Vulcans and vampires get along? Where wizards and wookies can be themselves? Welcome to Comic-Con San Diego. What started as a fringe comic book convention for 500 fans has grown into the pop culture event of the year that influences every form of entertainment, now attended by over 140,000 strong. COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE- a film by Morgan Spurlock explores this amazing cultural phenomenon by following the lives of five attendees as they descend upon the ultimate geek mecca at San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

I can't believe I lived in LA all of those years and never attended. Although, last year I did attend the annual Atlanta version called Dragon Con and it was a hoot AND a hollar.

If you get a chance to attend either, I highly recommend it.

The visual entertainment value is priceless.

Comic-Con Surprises

Comic Con 2015 just ended and, with it, came the release of a few unexpected movie promotions. First off...the first full length Batman v Superman trailer, with our first look at Wonder Woman.



It looks pretty awesome and it was great to see Wonder Woman in action.



I couldn't be more there opening weekend (March 25, 2016).



Then the Star Wars team released a behind-the-scenes overview on the making of The Force Awakens, emphasizing the use of practical sets and creatures (rather than all CGI)...



It was very cool to see so many of the original cast members and locations after so many years. If this sneak peek is any indication, the movie could be amazing.



Then, after a bad pirated version was released last night online, the studio behind The Suicide Squad decided to just release a clean copy today.



I don't know much about this comic book series, but I do know that Jared Leto's creepy Joker and Ben Affleck's Batman are also in it....so that should be interesting and worth checking out.

Comic-Con preview

Entertainment Weekly has dedicated their latest issue to all things Comic-Con, which includes some good insight into the upcoming Batman v Superman movie as well as some new pics.









The movie opens in March of 2016.

Can't. Wait.

New Comic-Con Trailers

With Comic-Con in full swing over the weekend, a LOT of film and TV properties took that opportunity to release new trailers. Here is the new one for Justice League...



It's a pretty awesome trailer and appears to feature a bit more Wonder Woman than the first trailer (which makes sense, considering how well Wonder Woman is doing at the box office).

It's still a bit more CGI-y than I would like at this point, but we'll see how the film looks when it opens on November 17th.



Also, we got a full trailer for the second season of Stranger Things....



I loved the first season and this one looks like even more of the same, which is a VERY good thing.

We'll see how well the kids get through this when it starts airing on Netflix on October 27th.

You are worthy

The first trailer for Aquaman was released today at Comic-Con as well...



Honestly, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it might. The cinematography looks pretty cool, overall.

So, I'm very pleasantly surprised.

We'll see how things turn out when it is released on December 21st.

Supe's on

I am really looking forward to the new Superman movie next year. The folks at Comic Con that saw a trailer said it has more of a Batman Begins look and feel to it, which would be great.

Which reminds me....Dark Knight Rises opens in four more days!

Dying!

It has begun...

MTV released a new extended trailer for The Shannara Chronicles at Comic-Con in NYC this weekend...



I'm really looking forward to this, so I hope it doesn't suck. But, if the series is half as good as this trailer...I think I'm gonna be all good.

The 2-hour series premiere is on January 5th at 10pm.

Creature Feature

A new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was released at Comic Con this weekend as well and, this time, we get to see some beasts....



It's really looking like a fun movie!

We'll get to see all the magic it when it opens on November 18th.

New Hobbit Pics

Entertainment Weekly is about to release their Comic-Con preview issue which features a great cover, some new photos, and a visit to the set of the upcoming Hobbit movie.




















I can't wait to see this in December!!

How Now Brow Cowl

The first close-up look at Ben Affleck as Batman was released at Comic-Con this week...



He looks pretty good and I like how his chin and furrowed brow seem to match.

Magically delicious

A new Doctor Strange trailer was released at Comic Con this weekend and, this time, we get to see some magic and more of the Inception-y world...



It's looking really good, so far!

The movie opens on November 4th.

Activate!!

Yes...those are the Wonder Twins, Zan and Janya, action figures that arrived today at my house.



Squeeeee!

I had no idea that any were ever made, but came across an article this week about a limited edition set from DC that were only available for the kids who went to Comic-Con in 2009. So, naturally...I had to find a set.



Unfortunately, their odd sidekick, Gleek, was not part of this set. He was sold separately that day, so I'll eventually track him down.



They come in a cool box and, when you bring the two figures together in the box...you hear them say "Wonder Twin Powers, activate!" and such. Here is a video someone did to demonstrate that...



"Let's save those kids!"

I've often wished there was there was an eagle carrying a bucket of water nearby to "save" (ie: drop on) some rowdy kids...usually when I'm at the grocery store or in a movie theater.

If only....

Number Two

A couple of new trailers were released this weekend at New York Comic Con, the first of which was for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series on CBS All Access...



It's looking really good and, as much as I've fought it, I may have to get CBS All Access when this starts airing on January 23rd.

They also released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Discovery...



I still haven't seen the second season, but this new season won't start until sometime next year (likely after Picard), so I'll watch both of them after that as well.

Magic blooms

The new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer was also released today at Comic-Con...



These movies are always entertaining, beautiful to watch, and wildly creative. I'm so glad that we get one of these every couple of years.

The world needs a little magic right now.

I can't wait to go see this when it opens on November 16th.

End Scene

Peter Jackson posted this on his Facebook account today to let people know that he has just wrapped shooting on both of the Hobbit movies.

Part one comes out this December, with the other half arriving next December.

Exciting!

Update: Peter Jackson released an exclusive Comic-con preview poster on his Facebook page today.



Wish I could be there to see his presentation this week.

The Hobbit Video Blog 8

Peter Jackson was at Comic-Con this year and shared some clips and footage from the upcoming Hobbit movie. So, he added all of that and more to his latest video blog, which covers the final days of shooting the film and lots of cool behind-the-scenes stuff and cast appearances.



Can't wait to see this!

I'm a superhero!

The first trailer for Shazam was released today at Comic-Con...



It looks like a lot of fun and definitely doesn't have the dark tone of the previous DC movies (except for Wonder Woman), which is a good thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing this when it comes out April 5th.

The first pic of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman from Batman vs Superman was released today at Comic-Con.

Ermahgerd...I like it!

One Last Time

The first teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was released today after premiering at Comic-Con this past weekend...



I didn't see one wacky barrel ride down a river.

So, already it's looking better than the last part.

I'm in.

Star Trek DVD

It arrives in stores tomorrow...Yeah!

I loved the new "Star Trek" movie, so have really been looking forward to it coming out on DVD. It really was one of the most fun movies of the year, regardless of whether you were a fan of the original show or not.








If you missed it in the theaters, then definitely rent or buy it to watch at home (you can actually get the single disc version for $9.99 on Amazon.com. Can't beat that!). There are three version of the DVD, each with their own set of special features (including a digital copy for the kids who want to download it to their various i-Devices).

I ordered the 3-Disc Blue Ray Special Edition and the one disc regular version, cause I like having options.

And...I'm a bit of a nerd.
