How Dare you

 photo 9d48dcf7-8148-451f-b999-6aac3c288d90_zpsff5jnv3o.jpg

Well, this is a shame...

Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.

I really liked Daredevil and am bummed that it won't get another season. But, it's possible he may show up in a season of Punisher or Jessica Jones or, maybe, one of the Marvel movies.

I guess time will tell.

The first trailer for Artemis Fowl was released today...

I know nothing about this series of books. However, I love me some fantasy movies and any film that can get Judi Dench to play Commander Root, the head of the Fairie Police, has definitely got my attention.

The movie opens on August 19th.

Leggo my Lego

 photo Screen Shot 2018-11-26 at 7.29.04 PM_zpsolbd3mxx.png

Ever wondered how long it would take you to poop out a Lego?

Pediatricians in the UK have finally answered one of life’s grand riddles: Just how long would it take for a Lego toy accidentally swallowed by someone to gracefully make its way back out?

The answer comes courtesy of a recent study published last week in The Journal of Pediatrics and Child Health. The six authors of the study all volunteered themselves to ingest the head of a typical Lego figurine. On average, the authors reported, it took 1.71 days for the Lego poop to finally emerge, at least for those who actually found it. One of the doctors never spotted their toy, meaning they either just missed it or that the head might have gotten stuck somewhere along the gut, destined to come out at some other inopportune time or just languish in the body for years to come.

“A toy object quickly passes through adult subjects with no complications,” they wrote. “This will reassure parents, and the authors advocate that no parent should be expected to search through their child’s feces to prove object retrieval.”

You're welcome.

Shields Up!

Looks like Agents of Shield just received a seventh season renewal, even though the sixth season won't air until the summer of 2019...

ABC has just given Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD a huge vote of confidence with an order for a seventh season of the show, months before the sixth season even premieres.

The end of season five back in May came with lots of questions because of the proximity, both in real life and in the story, to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Ultimately, Thanos’ snap didn’t play out on SHIELD, but with two seasons now locked in, it’s certainly possible some remnants of that could be addressed.

Plus, by the time season six comes around next year, fans will once again be familiarized with both SHIELD and Agent Coulson, thanks to their roles in Captain Marvel (releasing in March 2019). While we have no clue what Avengers 4 will hold—time travel, reset, dead characters, who knows—almost any of that could impact the story moving forward.

I really like this show and thought that this upcoming sixth season was the final one. So, I'm glad that it's already locked in for a seventh season.

Roy Clark

 photo RC_zps58gdx5ar.jpg

Sad news today...

Roy Clark, a Country Music Hall of Fame member celebrated equally for his sense of humor and his instrumental wizardry, has died. He was 85.

Apart from his long string of country hits (1963-1989), Clark was a major television personality, both as co-host with Buck Owens of the Hee Haw music and comedy series (1969-1994) and as a frequent guest and substitute host on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.

In 1969, he signed on to co-host the short-lived CBS TV variety show, Hee Haw. Of course, that show transformed itself into the long-running series which lasted until 1994. Clark won additional fame on Hee Haw as a member of the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet, an ensemble that also featured Owens, Grandpa Jones and Kenny Price.

The music industry awarded Clark lavishly. The Country Music Association alone conferred upon him seven major trophies, among them entertainer, comedian and musician of the year. In 1982, he won the best country instrumental Grammy for his recording of “Alabama Jubilee.”

As a philanthropist, Clark made major contributions to such institutions as Children’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., and the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles. He is also is memorialized in the Roy Clark Emergency Treatment Center in Farmville, Va., and the Roy Clark Wing of St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

I remember watching Hee Haw with my parents growing up and can, to this day, still remember many of the silly bits, songs ("Gloom, dispair and agony on me...") and skits. I didn't realize it ran for 25 years. Pretty amazing for a show of that kind.

He will be missed, but very fondly remembered.

Stan Lee

 photo 4df5ae00-6b65-4225-8e0b-a14a282a0406_zpsaubhr8cp.jpg

Very sad news today...

Stan Lee, the public face of Marvel Comics and co-creator of iconic superheroes such as Spider-Man, Thor, and Black Panther, has passed away at age 95.

Born Stanley Lieber in 1922, Lee began his career in comics as a gofer/Guy Friday, thanks to his uncle Robbie Solomon. His roots at Marvel go back to 1939, when the company was still called Timely Comics. He worked his way up from small fill-in writing assignments to becoming an increasingly important figure, eventually becoming editor-in-chief in 1941. After Timely became Atlas and the WWII-era superhero fad cooled, Lee worked on romance, monster, and cowboy comics.

Lee’s crowning triumph came when the publisher was at the brink of failure in the late 1950s. He was given carte blanche to try out new superhero concepts and, in collaboration with Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and other artists, delivered the building blocks of what would later become the Marvel Universe in 1961. The Marvel approach was to humanize its superheroes, giving them flaws and foibles that felt fresh in comparison to the prevailing execution from rival DC Comics. Marvel’s success was synonymous with the Stan Lee name, and the words “Stan Lee Presents” preceded story title and company pronouncements for decades.

When Marvel hit hard times and declared bankruptcy in 1998, the company voided Lee’s contract. The move was seen as a disrespectful dismissal to one of the company’s founding fathers and Marvel’s corporate leadership eventually signed Lee back on as a symbolic figurehead, cutting him a hefty seven-figure salary and participation on any profits made from TV and movie adaptations.

 photo 7e9d609d-f260-40f4-a5b3-81209ccf843e_zpsqzcedekd.jpg

He continued as a jovial presence at conventions for decades—including a Los Angeles-based gathering once branded as Stan Lee’s Comikaze—and began making cameos in the blockbuster movies based on the characters he helped birth.

He had an amazing life and ended up making a long-lasting career out of creating iconic comic characters that have become such an integral part of the entertainment industry and Pop Culture to this day.

He will be missed, but remembered for a VERY long time.

The poster for the upcoming PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 was released today...

Ryan Reynolds has shared the new Once Upon a Deadpool poster, featuring his titular character and Fred Savage riding on top of a reindeer for Deadpool 2’s PG-13 cut that will be arriving in theaters for a limited time starting on December 12 and ending on Christmas Eve.

Once Upon a Deadpool will contain footage from Deadpool 2, but edited down to a PG-13 format which means cutting some of the violence and language. Fans can also expect new footage “in the form of a framing sequence” in the revamped film that Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick devised for the project.

Savage will reprise his role from the 1987 classic, The Princess Bride, in the new framing sequence alongside Reynold’s Deadpool. Eight scenes were filmed for the new footage in the upcoming project.

I'll be really curious to see how this is received and how they were capable of editing that film down to anything near a PG-13 rating. My guess is that there will be a lot of funny things done in the editing room and said in those new scenes to make sure it's still just as hilarious as the original.

I may just have to see that.

That version of the film opens on December 12th.

Barbra Streisand joined James Corden for another fun episode of Carpool Karaoke...

For a 76-year old woman, she's still got a pretty amazing voice and it's nice to see her do something fun like this (even though she is obviously promoting her new album).

I don't plan to rain on her parade.

When they come for you

I don't know that we needed a third Bad Boys movie.

But, we're getting one anyway.

It should be fine on Netflix when it finally makes it there.

I'll wait.
