Looks like the Aquaman movie now has a release date...

The Warner Bros superhero pic starring Jason Momoa and directed by James Wan will hit theaters October 5, 2018 in both 3D and IMAX.

Aquaman made his cinematic debut earlier this year via a short cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The character will next be seen in a major role in the Zack Snyder-directed follow up Justice League, which sees the major heroes of the DC Universe united to face off against DC Villain Steppenwolf. 

 The Aquaman stand-alone film stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman – AKA Arthur Curry, king of Atlantis – alongside Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis in the comics and likely to fill the same role here.

I guess a lot of this film's success is going to ride on how well his character is received when he shows up in the Justice League movie next year.

Fingers and fins crossed.

Sea legs

The first photo of Mera: Queen of Atlantis from the Justice League movie was released today, as well as the concept art for her costume.



I'm guessing she'll be hanging out with Aquaman at some point during the film and, likely, playing a much bigger role when the solo Aquaman movie is released later.

Justice League opens November 17th, 2017.

Blonde Ambition

The Internets were abuzz today after Jason Momoa revealed at Sundance that his Aquaman won't have the historic character's signature blonde locks...

A 74-year-old woman proclaiming to be a huge fan of the Aquaman comic books wanted to know if Momoa's King Of The Seven Seas will have a beard and mustache. "Well, just going off what you've seen so far ma'am, I don't think he is going to be blonde or white," Momoa stated.

I have faith that people will find something else to focus on when his character finally appears on screen.

Aquaman: First official photo

Zach Snyder released the first official photo of Jason Momoa as Aquaman today. The character is scheduled to show up first in Batman v Superman next year before starring in his own feature as well as showing up as part of the upcoming Justice League movies.

I'm really looking forward to the DC Universe films. I hope they're as enjoyable as most of the Marvel Universe movies have been (especially Avengers).

Time will tell...

The first trailer for Aquaman was released today at Comic-Con as well...



Honestly, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it might. The cinematography looks pretty cool, overall.

So, I'm very pleasantly surprised.

We'll see how things turn out when it is released on December 21st.

Empire Magazine's latest issue (hitting newsstands tomorrow) has a lot of new information on the upcoming Batman v Superman movie and a few new pics...



“What we are doing is ground up all the way. It is one giant story,” Snyder explains. “The first thing we had was the Justice League concept. The other movies, in a way, have to support that. That is our Wonder Woman, our Aquaman. They have their own creative concepts that supports them, but they do serve Justice League in the coming together of those heroes. I want all the other directors of the other films to be able to stretch their legs and do what they want, but at the same time there is a big interconnected universe."



“He has been Batman for 20 years. All the history is there. Was there a Robin at one time? Possibly. We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: ‘I’ve been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.’ In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn’t matter. Today, Warner Bros. finally announced their full slate of DC Comics movies coming out over the next few years…

I'm glad that they're putting together the Justice League and really happy that we're getting a Wonder Woman movie after all of these years.

Teamwork

The final Justice League trailer was released over the weekend....



It's looking pretty fun (although still a bit more CGI-y than I would like). Also, it seems that they've beefed up a bit more focus on Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Wonder Woman, which is just fine with me.

Jason Momoa's Aquaman appears to have a "little bit" of an attitude problem, which could be fun.

Here's hoping it's better than Batman v Superman.

Classic Pop

A couple of new trailers were released over the weekend with some blasts from the past. First, the new Aquaman trailer revealed, not only more action and a longer look at the film, but a glimpse of Jason Momoa donning the original costume...



I know that trailers can be deceiving, but they are really doing a good job of balancing action, visuals, and fun.

Me likey and I'll be there when it opens on December 21st.



Star Trek: Discovery also released a trailer for their upcoming second season and it revealed a lot of new surprises, including a first look at Spock...



I still refuse to pay for CBS All Access (it's cheaper to buy the DVDs each season, which I recently did for Season One), but I look forward to watching this new season next year when the DVD is available.

Until then, everyone else can watch it when it premieres on January 17th.
