A New Age

 photo d_zpsqfbkinrp.jpg

The first trailer for Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was released today...

It looks remarkably close to the original film, just with more current visual effects.

I'm in.

The series gets released on August 30th.

Snow Day

 photo Screen Shot 2019-05-29 at 7.47.23 PM_zpssi9xwrd1.png

It turns out that the ending of Game of Thrones did more than just disappoint people, it appears to have caused Kit Harington to take a much-needed break...

The Game of Thrones finale hit everyone hard, but for Kit Harington, for all his character went through, he needed to decompress from all of it. The actor, who played fan favorite Jon Snow for eight seasons, checked into a “wellness retreat” since the finale of the HBO fantasy series.

“Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues,” Harington’s rep told Deadline. “It definitely won’t impact any potential upcoming work.”

Harington was also visibly emotional in the documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch which aired May 26. We saw Harington get emotional while filming his final scene where Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) is killing prisoners after King’s Landing has been burnt to a crisp. We also saw him brought to tears during the table read for the finale as he finds out that he is the one that kills his Auntie/Lover Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Hopefully he recovers well and is able to move forward happily in his life.

The same can't be said for many people who saw the Game of Thrones finale.

Here we go

The first full trailer for the upcoming Downton Abbey movie was released this morning...

It's great that they got the cast back together for this and the cinematography and costumes look as lush and beautiful as always.

I can't wait to see this when it comes out on September 20th!

Making an entrance

 photo giphy_zpsxcakvfwl.gif

This really was the best visual moment in the, otherwise disappointing, series finale of Game of Thrones.

It pretty much went downhill from that point on.

Tim Conway

 photo t_zpsfajjg8bh.jpg

More sad news today...

Tim Conway, whose gallery of innocent goofballs, stammering bystanders, transparent connivers, oblivious knuckleheads and hapless bumblers populated television comedy and variety shows for more than half a century, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was 85.

Mr. Conway reached the height of his supporting fame on “The Carol Burnett Show” with characters like Mr. Tudball, an office martinet with an awful toupee, a vaguely Scandinavian accent and a flummoxing secretary (Ms. Burnett); and the Old Man, who moved so slowly that he couldn’t perform in any of the occupations (sheriff, butcher, fireman) he found himself in. His sketch work showed him to be a superb comic collaborator, especially with Ms. Burnett and Harvey Korman. He was also known for including ad-libs that forced his cast mates out of character into not entirely suppressed hysterics. This is one of his most famous ones...

He won four Primetime Emmys (including one for writing) for his work on the Burnett show, which is widely considered one of the enduring high points of television comedy, screwball division, in league with “Your Show of Shows,” “The Honeymooners” and “I Love Lucy.”

In a foreword to Mr. Conway’s autobiography, Carol Burnett called him “a kind and funny genius.” “His sketches with Harvey Korman deserve a spot in whatever cultural time capsule we’re setting aside for future generations,” she wrote. “Maybe there are other performers as funny, but in my opinion I can’t think of anybody funnier.”

He really was one of the funniest guys out there and nobody could keep a straight face when they worked with him, especially Harvey Korman. This is a classic example of that...

He will be very missed.

Doris Day

 photo Screen Shot 2019-05-13 at 1.56.45 PM_zpsqi2r7bbg.png

Very sad news today...

Doris Day, the freckle-faced movie actress whose irrepressible personality and golden voice made her America’s top box-office star in the early 1960s, died on Monday at her home in Carmel Valley, Calif. She was 97.

Ms. Day began her career as a big-band vocalist, and she was successful almost from the start: One of her first records, “Sentimental Journey,” released in 1945, sold more than a million copies, and she went on to have numerous other hits.

Between “Romance on the High Seas” in 1948 and “With Six You Get Eggroll” in 1968, she starred in nearly 40 movies. On the screen she turned from the perky girl next door in the 1950s to the woman next door in a series of 1960s sex comedies that brought her four first-place rankings in the yearly popularity poll of theater owners, an accomplishment equaled by no other actress except Shirley Temple. In the 1950s she starred, and most often sang, in comedies (“Teacher’s Pet,” “The Tunnel of Love”), musicals (“Calamity Jane,” “April in Paris,” “The Pajama Game”) and melodramas (“Young Man With a Horn,” the Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The Man Who Knew Too Much,” “Love Me or Leave Me”).

 photo Screen Shot 2019-05-13 at 2.06.09 PM_zpsyeynjyw1.png

She went on to appear in “Pillow Talk” (1959), “Lover Come Back” (1961) and “That Touch of Mink” (1962), fast-paced comedies in which she fended off the advances of Rock Hudson (in the first two films) and Cary Grant (in the third).

During the last decades of her life, through her foundation, Ms. Day spent much of her time rescuing and finding homes for stray dogs, even personally checking out the backyards and fencing of people who wanted to adopt, and she worked to end the use of animals in cosmetic and household-products research.

She had an amazing career in many ways and lived a very long life.

She will be missed, but very fondly remembered for decades to come.

Over the rainbow

The first trailer for the Judy Garland biopic, Judy, was released today...

It actually looks pretty good and Renee Zellweger seems to be doing a great job of affecting her mannerisms, while still making it her own.

We'll see how it all comes together when it opens on September 27th.

It too, Brute?

 photo Screen Shot 2019-05-09 at 8.35.36 PM_zpsqwaeabgh.png

The first trailer for It: Chapter Two was released today...

I really like most of the cast in this one, but I couldn't get through the first film. I found everyone so annoying. Yet, so many people loved the first one and it made a gazillion dollars.

I don't get it.

I might try to make myself watch the rest of the first one and then see what people think of the sequel before trying to watch the new one, which opens on September 6th.

Or not.

The new trailer from Spiderman: Far From Home was released...

It looks like it will be a lot of fun. Plus, it's nice to see Jake Gyllenhaal join the Marvel universe.

We'll see whether he plays a good guy or a bad guy when the movie opens on July 2nd.

Mother of Lattes

 photo Screen Shot 2019-05-06 at 10.11.59 PM_zpsefmz9sfm.png

It seems that a Starbucks coffee cup made it into the episode of Game of Thrones last night. HBO replied with this statement...

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake,” the premium cabler said in a statement today, stating the obvious. “Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

That seems more likely.

I can't believe there are only two episodes left.

The trailer for the upcoming sixth season of Agents of Shield was released today...

I've been watching this from the beginning and really enjoy it. Looking forward to it starting up again on May 10th.
