Strike up the band

 photo Screen Shot 2019-04-17 at 10.29.36 PM_zpsjh7vgqy3.png

It looks like Netflix is going to produce the revival of The Boys In The Band that played on Broadway last year for a limited time...

Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer and the entire Broadway cast of last year’s The Boys in the Band will reunite, along with director Joe Mantello, for a Netflix film adaptation, producer Ryan Murphy announced today.

“The Broadway cast of Boys was so important to me,” Murphy wrote in an Instagram post, “and as equally groundbreaking as Mart Crowley’s seminal work. Everyone in the cast was out and proud…and feeling so blessed to mark the 50th anniversary of Mart’s landmark play.”

The 15-week limited engagement closed on Aug. 11, 2018, following a record-breaking run at the Booth. The production recouped its $3.5 million investment in the 11th week of its run, and in its final week smashed the Booth’s house record, taking a weekly gross of $1,152,649 (the theater’s previous record holder was 2015’s The Elephant Man starring Bradley Cooper, with $1,113,192).

Murphy will be produce the film with David Stone and Ned Martel, with a debut on Netflix in 2020.

I am really excited that this is going to happen, since I couldn't see it last year on stage in NYC.

I love Netflix.

Space camp

Awesome news about the classic Lost in Space TV series...Netflix is creating a new version...

Netflix has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to Lost in SpaNetflix Logoce, a remake of sci-fi master Irwin Allen’s 1965 cult TV classic, from Legendary TV. The streaming service landed the project for development in November in a competitive situation, with multiple bidders. It is eyed for a 2018 premiere.

The new Lost in Space takes its cues from the original series, centering on the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world,” said Cindy Holland, VP Original Content at Netflix.

I loved this series as a kid and also didn't hate the movie they made a while back.  So, I'm definitely going to keep my EYE out for this one!

Chelsea Handler's new Netflix talk show is set to begin airing on May 11th. At the moment it has no official title, so she took to Twitter and asked people to send her their ideas and Netflix would choose their favorite.

I love the one at top...it made me laugh out loud.

And I mean LOUD.

I'm very much looking forward to this. Also, if you haven't seen her Chelsea Does series (also on Netflix), you must.

It's awesome.

Prom Queens

 photo Screen Shot 2019-06-25 at 7.15.59 PM_zpsz90mphtn.png

Ryan Murphy and Netflix are taking Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman to the Prom...

Not yet a year into his expensive five-year deal with Netflix, Ryan Murphy is about to deliver his biggest get for the streamer. Deadline hears he will direct and produce the feature adaptation of the Tony-nominated stage musical The Prom and has secured a cast that puts Netflix in new star-power territory.

Meryl Streep will star alongside James Corden, Nicole Kidman and Ariana Grande, with Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells playing key roles. Sources said Murphy will get underway directing the film adaptation of the Broadway hit in December, for a fall 2020 awards season release in theaters before it airs on the streamer.

In Prom, Streep will play Dee Dee Allen, a two-time Tony winner who teams with Corden’s Barry Glickman in a flop musical about Eleanor Roosevelt. After career-ending reviews, they decide — along with Broadway babies Kidman as Angie Dickinson and Rannells (Book of Mormon) as Trent Oliver — to champion a cause to rehabilitate their careers. They find one in Emma, a high school senior in Indiana who isn’t allowed to take her girlfriend to the prom.

A nationwide search led by casting director Alexa Fogel is on to fill the role of Emma. Grande will star as Alyssa, a popular daughter of the head of the PTA. Awkwafina will play the group’s publicist Ms. Sheldon, and Key will play Streep’s love interest and Emma’s ally, Principal Hawkins.

I haven't seen the show, so I am really looking forward to seeing this once it's ready to go next year.

Netflix just released the first trailer for Chelsea Handler's upcoming four-part documentary, Chelsea Does...

I am a big fan of her books and E! talk show Chelsea Lately and this trailer looks like more of the same style of humor and conversations that I'll likely enjoy from her as well.

Damn you Netflix for making me enjoy your new programming so much!

All four episodes become available on Netflix January 23rd.

The first promo for Chelsea Handler's new Netflix show was released...

Netflix has unveiled the official key art for Chelsea, its long-in-the-works talk show in which host Chelsea Handler “tackles today’s tough issues with the same acerbic wit and fearless curiosity you know and love.”

Premiering May 11, the streaming service’s first talker will cover topics ranging from international cultures, alternative lifestyles, education, health to sports, parenting politics and more. Handler will span the globe — from Russia, Japan, and Mexico City, across the U.S. and back to Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City to tape live before a studio audience.

I've missed her nightly show and look forward to this starting up on May 11th.

Umbrella Academy Season 2

 photo Screen Shot 2019-04-01 at 3.43.06 PM_zpsko5m2qxl.png

Great news today...

Netflix's The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for a second season. Based on the award-winning comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the first season of The Umbrella Academy proved to be an absolute hit for Netflix. It actually became the most in-demand superhero TV series, beating even The Flash. Production is expected to be underway from May 2019 through to September 2019.

I loved this series on Netflix.  If you haven't watched it yet...do!

Netflix has released their first full trailer for the upcoming series Wet Hot American Summer and it looks like it could be a hoot and, quite possibly, a hollar...

Netflix has dropped the first full trailer for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day Of Camp, the prequel series to the cult hit 2001 pic. The aptly titled eight-episode series starts with the first day of camp in 1981.

We get the first look at new cast additions Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm and Jason Schwartzman along with returning stars from the movie, Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, David Hyde Pierce, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, AD Miles, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon and Michael Showalter.

It's got a pretty amazing cast and I have a feeling hilarity will likely ensue.

I'm in.

Star Trek: Discovery has been officially renewed for a third season...

EW reports that CBS has officially confirmed a third season of the show is in the works, planned to air in the U.S. on CBS All Access, Space in Canada, and on Netflix internationally in 2020.

I'm glad that it's continuing to grow and, hopefully, it'll end up on Netflix one of these days, because I still refuse to pay to watch it.

Until then, I look forward to the DVDs coming out.

If Grace and Frankie is anywhere near as funny as Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, then I am definitely all in!

This Netflix movie looks good...

I like Sandra Bullock and the movie A Quiet Place. So, this looks like that, except with blindfolds.

We'll see how good it is when it becomes available on Netflix on December 21st.

How Dare you

 photo 9d48dcf7-8148-451f-b999-6aac3c288d90_zpsff5jnv3o.jpg

Well, this is a shame...

Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.

I really liked Daredevil and am bummed that it won't get another season. But, it's possible he may show up in a season of Punisher or Jessica Jones or, maybe, one of the Marvel movies.

I guess time will tell.

Bubble-Headed Boobies

Very interesting casting choice for Netflix's upcoming Lost In Space series....

Netflix and Legendary’s upcoming reboot of Lost in Space is still over a year away, but we’re very excited about the latest addition to the cast: Parker Posey has signed on to play Doctor Smith!

The new Lost in Space will retain the same basic premise of the original series with a modernized tone and updated characters. In Irwin Allen’s classic show from 1965, the Robinson family of space explorers found themselves hopelessly adrift in the universe thanks to the sabotage of Doctor Zachary Smith. Unfortunately for Dr. Smith, he was unable to escape the Robinson’s ship, the Jupiter 2, before he was trapped on board as well.

I, for one, am very excited about this news. Parker Posey is awesome in just about anything she does and she's always fun to watch.

And to the purists who are complaining that a man should have been cast in this role...

The show premieres in 2018.

It has a good cast and director. Plus, I enjoy Meryl Streep, so am looking forward to seeing this after it hits theaters and ends up on Netflix in the fall.

Getting lost

 photo 66b68182-68dd-4039-8cb6-63bd1d54b8a3_zpsecvl6xha.png

I finished watching all ten episodes of Lost in Space on Netflix this week and, overall, really enjoyed it.

If you've also seen it and would like to see some of the cool visual effects that they did for the show, check out this VFX reel that was released today...
The cast of the series is all pretty good and Parker Posey did a great job playing Doctor Smith.

 photo 8e5677ab-6625-4276-834b-7a4462849a9d_zpsuvs2vrdr.jpg

However, her character definitely provides one of the bigger challenges for the series, overall.

What do you do with a character who is clearly psychotic and completely (and unapologetically) untrustworthy?

On the other hand, Ignacio Serricchio, who plays Don West, turned an initially unlikable character into someone that you gradually warm up to and root for in the end.

 photo 627128aa-759e-4d4c-b34d-0e07d9b931f1_zpsbmpphpig.jpg

It's just a shame he's "so" unattractive.

You can watch all ten episodes of Lost in Space now on Netflix now.

More Space

photo lost in space robot 4_zpssd01bitk.gif

The new Lost in Space on Netflix got renewed for a second season...

The Robinson family will continue to find themselves lost in intergalactic adventures. A month after Lost In Space‘s premiere, the sci-fi series has been renewed for a second season.

The pickup comes after a strong launch for the show. According to data released by Nielsen, Lost In Space garnered 3.16 million viewers overall on its first day of release, Netflix’s third best premiere-day viewership in the past year behind Season 2 of Stranger Things and movie Bright.

I really enjoyed the first season and am very happy that it's getting another one!

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix reboot of Lost in Space was released today...

I really enjoyed the original series as well as the movie reboot several years back. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out before making a judgement.

The series premieres on Netflix on April 13th.

Exciting!
