More Space

The new Lost in Space on Netflix got renewed for a second season...

The Robinson family will continue to find themselves lost in intergalactic adventures. A month after Lost In Space‘s premiere, the sci-fi series has been renewed for a second season.

The pickup comes after a strong launch for the show. According to data released by Nielsen, Lost In Space garnered 3.16 million viewers overall on its first day of release, Netflix’s third best premiere-day viewership in the past year behind Season 2 of Stranger Things and movie Bright.

I really enjoyed the first season and am very happy that it's getting another one!

Very interesting casting choice for Netflix's upcoming Lost In Space series....

Netflix and Legendary’s upcoming reboot of Lost in Space is still over a year away, but we’re very excited about the latest addition to the cast: Parker Posey has signed on to play Doctor Smith!

The new Lost in Space will retain the same basic premise of the original series with a modernized tone and updated characters. In Irwin Allen’s classic show from 1965, the Robinson family of space explorers found themselves hopelessly adrift in the universe thanks to the sabotage of Doctor Zachary Smith. Unfortunately for Dr. Smith, he was unable to escape the Robinson’s ship, the Jupiter 2, before he was trapped on board as well.

I, for one, am very excited about this news. Parker Posey is awesome in just about anything she does and she's always fun to watch.

And to the purists who are complaining that a man should have been cast in this role...

The show premieres in 2018.

Awesome news about the classic Lost in Space TV series...Netflix is creating a new version...

Netflix has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to Lost in SpaNetflix Logoce, a remake of sci-fi master Irwin Allen’s 1965 cult TV classic, from Legendary TV. The streaming service landed the project for development in November in a competitive situation, with multiple bidders. It is eyed for a 2018 premiere.

The new Lost in Space takes its cues from the original series, centering on the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world,” said Cindy Holland, VP Original Content at Netflix.

I loved this series as a kid and also didn't hate the movie they made a while back.  So, I'm definitely going to keep my EYE out for this one!

Danger Will Robinson!

Photobucket

While looking for a pic online, I came across this site that builds/sells robots based on the original "Lost In Space" TV show. I used to love that show and thought, one day when I'm rich, I'd make the Jupiter Two spaceship my pool house in the mansion that I'd obviously own with my unlimited income. Since that hasn't happened yet...it would still make an excellent Christmas gift.

And, for only $24,000...it should make shopping for me much easier this year for one of you lucky people.

Or, if that is too pricey...the Christmas card version of Dr. Smith from the photo on the bottom of this post will also do. I still laugh hard every time I look at it.

Well, I am caught up on all, but one, of my backlog of TV shows on the DVR. I still have four episodes of "Boston Legal" (and a new one tonight), which I'm saving to watch with my roommate. Since he's so busy and not as TV-centric as I am, I just save the good shows that we both like ("30 Rock", "The Office" and "Boston Legal") for a TV night. It makes for a fun evening of laughing out loud, liquid-shooting-through-the-nose, rewind-that-again viewing.

The others, I get through on my own...

Grey's Anatomy

This is a show that I should like a lot more than I do. It's a show written by a woman, featuring a pretty good mix of actors and, more than surgeries, focuses on relationships. However, I didn't like it when it premiered and that should have stopped me there. I thought all of the characters were so unlikeable and annoying, that I didn't start watching it again until a year later when everyone at my office kept saying "You have to watch it...it's so good now."

So I tried again...and got hooked.

It had a pretty good year, then slowly went to Hell from there. I used to like several of the characters enough to get through disliking the main Grey character. Her character was so whiny and made so many unrealistic choices that I kept hoping some kind of large object would fall down and McCrush she and McDreamy.

I still wish that. But, now I want the object to be large enough to take out most of the cast and writing staff.

Izzy used to be good/interesting to watch...then they had her fall in love with George randomly in one episode...eliminating any sympathy for her character or the other character I really liked, until that storyline...Torres. I liked Torres because she constantly pointed out exactly what I thought about the main characters...they were so self-absorbed, pretty mean and not very nice to hang around. Then, the writers made Torres just as dramatic and unlikeable as the rest.

Now, the only character that keeps me watching at this point is Bailey.

Photobucket

She and the actress who plays her are great and feature the only cast member with any kind of realism, personality and humanity that merits screen time. If they'd only give her a bit more to do in each episode.

After last week's stupid episode about "the contest" and watching the three main gals treating patients with absolutely no sliver of realism (Grey actually exclaimed with glee "Oh...TUMOR" in front of a man who ended up having one that was going to kill him), it's gonna be difficult for them to keep me watching another season.

Unless they get rid of the annoying characters and just call it "Bailey's Anatomy" or "My Vajay-jay".

Photobucket

Lost

As confusing and complicated as this show becomes each year...I am hooked. After watching six episodes in a row yesterday, I am not about to drop this show anytime soon.

Now, that in mind, a part of me also thinks that the only way to keep anyone, but an avid fan, watching this show is by just showing several episodes in a row over a series of days. It's so complicated that, I think, people who miss one episode just get frustrated and stop watching. If they made "Lost" a mini-series each year and just played the entire season over the course of one week (a couple hours a night), I think they might be able to keep people involved.

All that being said, if you are a fan of this show, this is a great season!

I am constantly amazed at how well-planned and thought-out this show is. To be able to plot out flashbacks and flashforwards, while also focusing on the present, is unprecidented and very smart. It's like watching three different series, with the same cast, all rolled into one. I don't know how they do it, but I'm gonna keep watching.

Unless they air a very special episode called "The Harlem Globetrotters on Lost".

Then, I might be done.

Getting lost

I finished watching all ten episodes of Lost in Space on Netflix this week and, overall, really enjoyed it.

If you've also seen it and would like to see some of the cool visual effects that they did for the show, check out this VFX reel that was released today...
The cast of the series is all pretty good and Parker Posey did a great job playing Doctor Smith.

However, her character definitely provides one of the bigger challenges for the series, overall.

What do you do with a character who is clearly psychotic and completely (and unapologetically) untrustworthy?

On the other hand, Ignacio Serricchio, who plays Don West, turned an initially unlikable character into someone that you gradually warm up to and root for in the end.

It's just a shame he's "so" unattractive.

You can watch all ten episodes of Lost in Space now on Netflix now.

Oprah in lederhosen

Photobucket

It looks like The Sound of Music is also one of Oprah's favorite things...

Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer will join fellow "Music" stars Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl) on Winfrey's show on October 29, 2010.

Photobucket

Ironically, three of those child actors ended up in classic Sci-Fi TV series several years later.

Angela Cartwright (Brigitta) went on to star as Penny Robinson in Lost in Space.

Photobucket

Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich) went on to star in The Amazing Spiderman way before Tobey Maguire was capable of being conceived.

Photobucket

And Heather Menzies (Louisa) went on to marry Robert Vegas Urich and also co-star in Logan's Run.

Photobucket

Maria and the Captain must be very proud.

Reflecting on nature

Photobucket
From the makers of Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet....welcome to Sweden's Tree Hotel:

The hotel, which opens this month, is made of tree house units, each with a different theme and most designed by a different architect. The rooms vary between 15 and 30 square meters in size and 4 to 6 meters from the ground, and have either two or four beds each

Photobucket
Above is the "Mirrorcube" unit—designed to reflect its surroundings, but the glass has an infrared film, invisible to humans, that will prevent birds from flying into it.

Photobucket
It's a pretty cool idea and the MirrorCube is just one of the unique designs. Here are a couple others that are currently available:

The Bird's Nest Unit

The Cabin Unit

The Cone Unit

And, my favorite...the UFO Unit.
Photobucket
If that one comes with a "Lost in Space" robot that shouts "Danger, Will Robinson!" if someone tries to break in...

I'm in.

Here is the Treehotel's Web site if you'd like to book a room for me.

Christmas IS gonna be here before you know it...

Welcome to my home

While I wait for my stuff to arrive, I thought I would give you a little tour of my new digs. Come on in, won't you?

Photobucket

As you enter the building through the foyer, this is what you see as you surprise me with pizza and vodka because you know how much I enjoy them and...you're a good friend.

Photobucket

Once inside, I take the food and 750 ML beverage and begin eating and drinking immediately (because I don't cook and you're distracted by my new place). You look across the room and ask if the kitchen is back there...

Photobucket

And I say (likely with my mouth full) that it is and that a dining room table will go under that lovely lamp (at which point I'll likely spit some morsel of pizza out and you, being a good friend, will pretend not to notice and quickly point out how big the space is and how nice the wood floors look).

Photobucket

You then ask where the restroom is and I point the half-empty vodka bottle in my hand towards the entry on the left and then nod to indicate an immediate right once you get into the hallway as I finish another quick swig to help rinse the cheese out of my teeth.

Photobucket

Being a good friend, you choose not to acknowledge hearing me trip and hit my head on the lamp in the dining room and, instead, take a peek inside the guest room...

Photobucket

You then make your way down the hallway into the master bedroom...

Photobucket

Once inside, you comment loudly on how big the closet is (hoping the cavernous sound of your voice covers up the slurred swearing coming from me in the dining room).

Photobucket

You then head into the master bathroom...

Photobucket

You shout out "Great shower!" and then politely laugh at my drunken joke about how it has a nook for the products that will soon be cleaning my "nooks".

Photobucket

For a second, you wonder if you could quietly slip out of the bathroom window...

Photobucket

But then you think you hear me stumbling your way and immediately ask to see the kitchen.

Photobucket

Upon entering, you make light of the fact that I appear to be nodding off on the floor next to you and then comment on how compact, yet functional, the space is...

Photobucket

And how rustic the cabinets look and then...you notice the back door.

Photobucket

Being a good friend, you tell me you think you left something in your car for me and say you'll be "right back" and, noticing that I appear to be falling asleep on the pizza box, you carefully open the door and head quickly down the stairs.

Photobucket

For a brief moment, you turn and wonder if you should go back in and check on me. But then you suddenly hear me loudly slurring the theme song to "Land of the Lost" and immediately look for a way out to the street. You run down the back parking area...

Photobucket

And past the pool...

Photobucket

And, finally, you make it to your car, lock the doors, and speed away.

However, you do text me once you get to your place (because a good friend would never text and drive) and tell me that there was an emergency at the hospital (knowing I still have no idea what you do for a living, so I'll likely assume you're a doctor when I wake up later that night), that you'll come by to watch Glee with me next week, and that you really liked my new place.

Photobucket

You'll also choose not text me about Tom Bosley passing away because you know how much I loved Happy Days and that it'll only make me cry and, as you know, that's never a pretty sight for anyone involved AND that my new neighbors don't need to see that "charming" side of me just yet.

Why would you do all of this for me?

Well...it's obvious.

You're a good friend.

Well, that and the likelihood that I probably still have one of your DVDs and you just know it's gotta be in one of those damn boxes on the moving truck that should be here any day now.

Danger, indeed

The first full trailer for the Netflix reimagining of Lost In Space was released today...

This definitely gives us a better, overall, look and feel of the show. They are clearly focusing on a more realistic/darker version of the original series (no giant carrot people in sight).

Plus, Parker Posey playing Doctor Smith...enjoyable.

So far, I'm fairly impressed and looking forward to watching the first season when it premieres on April 13th.

I really enjoyed the original series as well as the movie reboot several years back. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out before making a judgement.

The series premieres on Netflix on April 13th.

Exciting!

Design Star

I like me some "Before and After" shows.

Photobucket

During the summer, there aren't too many TV shows that I watch regularly. Other than Kathy Griffin's "My Life on the D-List", the only other show that I record is HGTV's "Design Star".

Enjoyable.

Because I've been pretty busy the past few weeks, I had forgotten that the new season had started and that I had five episodes on the DVR to watch...which I did, one after the other, last night. I like this show because, at the end of the day, no matter how bitchy or mean you are as a person, you'll win or lose based on your actual talent and ability to create a good final product. The only other reality-type shows I watch like this, "Project Runway" and "Amazing Race" also share that basic philosophy.

Plus, there's nothing I enjoy more than seeing someone take a crappy, dreary, badly-designed room and totally revamping it into a living space that actually looks comfortable and clean.

Photobucket

I also enjoy the judging staff on this show. They are rarely outright mean and, often, their critique is right on the money.

Plus, I enjoy saying "Vern Yip"....

YIP!

He's as close to a Simon Cowell-type that this show has, but since he's really a designer, his critiques are often entertaining, without attacking or humiliating any particular individual personally.

I prefer that over something like "American Idol", where they make the nightly loser actually sing again before they walk off the stage crying into oblivion.

I also enjoy the variety of contestants on "Design Star". They have a nice mix of very professional designers and others that don't really have the standard education or experience, but have a natural talent or instinct that seems to work.

Photobucket

And, sometimes, they actually find "regular" people who happen to be attractive and talented, like Mikey V...a florida cop who is also a designer with a rippling "personality" and, although it hasn't been stated on the show yet....happens to be an out gay cop.

If anyone needs to keep wearing tank tops on the show....it's him.

Hey, it worked for the first season winner and shirtless-designer, David Bromstad, who eventually won and got his own show, "Color Splash" (although, to be honest, I don't really think he makes a very good host for his show. He doesn't appear comfortable in front of the camera and comes off a little too smug and snarky, if that's possible).

Speaking of too smug...

Photobucket

This guy, Michael, irritated me right from his audition. Anyone who begins their interview with "This just in....I'm fabulous!" is, to me, someone who deserves to have an anvil or piano immediately dropped on them. I'm all for the gays being themselves, but anyone who is flamboyant and loud just for the sake of being the center of attention (plus really kind of mean at times), has lost my support right from the beginning.

Thankfully, he was eliminated and, true to form as he was leaving the building, wept like a child and said he wanted his Mom.

I'm sure she's warming his bottle up as I write this.

Photobucket

Now, they just need to get rid of Tracee (yes, with two "e"s) and her annoying personality and horrible people skills.

If there is any justice in the world, there is a house just waiting to drop on her somewhere in the skys of Nashville.

And, if there is, I hope they catch it on film so we can see the before AND after.
