What's up, Gareth?
Mickey Rourke has been set to play out gay rugby player Gareth Thomas for a while now, which was always an odd choice, since he looks old enough to play his father (he's 59, and Gareth is 37).
Thankfully, Mickey has backed down recently...
Mickey Rourke has pulled out of a starring role in a movie he's developing about gay Welsh rugby icon Gareth Thomas because he says he's too old for the training.
Said Rourke: "The physical thing is harder than I thought. I'm just trying to get fit enough to do it."
I think it's a wise move...especially now that they're considering Inception's and the upcoming Dark Knight's Tom Hardy to take his place.
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Here's Gareth...
And here's Tom...
I think Mr. Hardy is a much better choice all around.
And I mean ALL around!
UPDATE: I just found out that Tom will not be playing Gareth.
"Any notion that Mickey is giving up on the role are way off the mark. We'd love Tom Hardy to be involved, but he will not be playing me. I teamed up with Mickey because in my opinion there's nobody better to take on such a challenging role and nothing has changed there. He's so motivated by the role it's blown me away. I'm an ex-rugby player, films are Mickey's world and I totally trust in his vision for the film."
In the words of Anatasia Beaverhausen..."Devil"!
I admire his dedication to Mickey Rourke, but he's just completely wrong to play him (and just too old).
So, my next choice would be the multi-talented action star...Mr. Jason Stratham.
I should be in casting.
Or at least in charge of "auditioning".
