Jupiter Too
I got into Portland, Oregon this past weekend and am staying at the retro-fun Jupiter Hotel.
It was an old Motor Lodge that was converted to a hip and colorful Standard Hotel-meets-Melrose Boulevard place to stay very near downtown Portland.
That's the quietly lovely Jupiter Lily who hangs out in the lobby and stares longlingly out the window in-between the time she spends updating her Facebook page.
From the general manager, Al, who lured me away from my previous Motel 6 reservation with a deal I couldn't pass up, to Kristin at the front desk (the coolest gal with a smile and personality to match) who has gone out of her way to make sure I've got everything I need and know where I'm going...the people here couldn't be nicer.
And the room...enjoyable.
The bed is very comfy, the bathroom is a nice size with dandy shower pressure, the Wi-Fi connection in the room is excellent, and the pillows are fluffy, fluffy, fluffy. Also, each room has some kind of funky mural on the wall...how could they have known that I've never been to the Grand Canyon?
Another fun part of each room is that you are given a wee basket of colored chalk...
So that you can get drunk and then use your newfound creative energies to draw on your chalkboard room door. Although I haven't gotten around to juicing-up and expressing myself just yet...others have.
When I saw this next one, I immediately thought of my friend Andrew because of his unique phobia of men with extreme facial hair...
The hotel also has a great diner, The Doug Fir, a full bar, a salon and spa, an outdoor event space, and a 350-seat concert venue under the restaurant...
And at night...the hotel is nicely illuminated with a cool blue hue too (say that three times fast).
Me likeys.
Food, drinks, and lots of fun stuff to see at every turn...it's tempting not to leave the hotel at all.
However, I did fly up here to explore the city and, as Lily sternly reminded me a few minutes ago...
"This city ain't gonna see itself."
She's a very wise plastic lady.
Plus, the Travel Channel is currently focusing on a group of people in Mongolia eating....SHEEP HEADS.
Dear God...they're eating the eyeballs!
*Heeker*
Gotta go...NOW!

You're gonna be there for how much longer? G and I can be on a plane this afternoon! Why? Why didn't I go with you on this trip?!
Lily seems to be a wise one indeed. Portland gets my vote!
