Superman and Lois

 photo S_zpso32efocb.jpg

Looks like there may be more Super friends coming to the CW soon...

The CW’s DC universe is eying another major expansion with Superman & Lois, a present-day drama based on the DC characters, starring Supergirl‘s Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the iconic couple. The hourlong project, now in development, hails from The Flash executive producer Todd Helbing, DC Universe architect Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV, where Helbing and Berlanti are under deals.

Hoechlin has been portraying Clark Kent/Superman on the CW’s Arrowverse series since 2016, primarily on Supergirl. Tulloch was cast as Lois Lane last year when she appeared alongside Hoechlin’s Man of Steel in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover. She has since appeared as Lois Lane on Supergirl, The Flash and Batwoman. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming big Arrowverse crossover event.

I enjoy him when he's on Supergirl, so we'll see if this moves forward after the pilot is complete.

I can't imagine it wouldn't.

Superman too

 photo S_zpsnlmmives.png

Here is the first picture of Brandon Routh suited up again as one of many Supermen for the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover with Supergirl and other other CW super-shows...

We’ve known for a few months the (frankly, still wild to contemplate) news that Brandon Routh would be appearing in the CW’s upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths mega-crossover of the Arrowverse and beyond, not just as Legends of Tomorrow’s Atom, but also Superman.

Well, a version of Superman amongst many, apparently—and not even the Superman Routh had previously played on the big screen either. Instead, Routh would be playing the older Superman of the iconic DC Comics Elseworlds miniseries Kingdom Come, by Mark Waid and Alex Ross.

The five-part Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover between The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman, and somehow basically every other old DC TV show you like begins on the CW this December.

These "events" are always fun to watch and there's even a possibility that Lynda Carter will be showing up to play a version of Wonder Woman.

I'm in!

The five-hour crossover’s first three episodes will air in December, with the final two installments arriving after the winter hiatus in Jan. 2020.

Here’s the full schedule below, with some of the shows airing on special nights:

  •  Supergirl: Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m.
  •  Batwoman: Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.
  •  The Flash: Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.
  •  Arrow: Tuesday, Jan 14 at 8 p.m.
  •  DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Tuesday, Jan 14. at 9 p.m.

Brightburn

 photo Screen Shot 2019-01-03 at 7.23.13 PM_zpsfusuo2qw.png

The first trailer for James Gunn's (Guardians of the Galaxy) next film, Brightburn, was released...

It looks like what would happen if Clark Kent's parents got a monster, instead of Superman.

Plus, it's got Elizabeth Banks as the Mom and Pam's ex-boyfriend (from The Office) playing the Dad.

I bet he wishes he had stayed with Pam now.

The film flies into theaters on Memorial Day.

Relatively speaking

 photo 788aaa32-d3b4-489a-8d84-501cbbeffb50_zpsuycdm8qy.png

The first image of Ruby Rose as Batwoman was released today.

The CW has released a first look photo of Ruby Rose suited up as Batwoman, who will first appear in the annual DC superhero crossover event, titled Elseworlds, as well as the Batwoman series that is currently in development from producer Greg Berlanti.

Elseworlds, the annual Arrowverse crossover, will take place in Gotham City. The crossover will start with The Flash on Sunday, December 9. Arrow will continue the story on Monday, December 10, before it all comes to an end in Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11.

This story will mark Ruby Rose’s debut as Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman. While Kate is Bruce Wayne’s cousin in the DC Universe, the Batman isn’t expected to appear in this story or anywhere else in the Arrowverse any time soon.

In the CW’s Batwoman, written by Caroline Dries based on the DC characters, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Another character I know nothing about. However, I always enjoy the CW crossover event each year, so am looking forward to seeing how this character blends in with the others.

I'll be especially interested to see how they explain how she's wandering around Gotham City fighting crime and her cousin, Batman/Bruce Wayne, just "happens" to not be around.

Supergirl eventually had to bring in Superman and, I'm guessing, Batman will have to come into the picture at some point, if the Batwoman show goes to series.

Time will tell.

Margot Kidder

 photo 4c30d7d1-e3b5-4766-a811-11168224fb59_zpskvbaazyg.jpg

Very sad news today...

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane opposite Christopher Reeve in the 1970s and ’80s Superman movies and starred in many other films including The Amityville Horror before struggling with mental illness in her later years, has died. She was 69.

Her other films of that era included The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, The Gravy Train with Stacy Keach and opposite Peter Fonda in 92 in the Shade. After the runaway success of the first Superman movie — “You’ll believe a man can fly,” was the tagline 40 years ago — Kidder starred in Shoot the Sun Down (1978) with Christopher Walken before playing Kathy Lutz alongside James Brolin and Rod Steiger in the 1979 classic creepshow The Amityville Horror.

She will be missed.

Triumph and Sacrifice

 photo 94dec7d3-9cc9-41d9-9666-cb47e6e61f48_zpsltuheztx.jpg

A new trailer for the upcoming Superman-related TV series, Krypton, was released today...

It looks somewhat visually interesting, but I'm not sure that a show about the fighting on Krypton before Superman was born is enough to hold a viewer's interest.

I mean, the Kryptonians won't have Superman strength or powers or fly, so I'm not sure watching them punch or shoot each other each week is gonna be all that exciting.

But, I'm willing to give it a couple of episodes and judge from there when it starts airing on March 21st on Syfy.

All In

A new set of Justice League posters was released ahead of the new trailer that is expected to be dropped over the weekend...

I think everyone already assumes that Superman is going to be in the movie, but the studio has not released any individual posters or photos of him from it, so I suppose we're expected to be "surprised" when he shows up.

I'll have to practice that reaction before I go see the movie when it opens on November 17th.

Snap shot

 photo be7bc68c-4d2c-4ef5-a281-4d4564d233ef_zpsw75adxhh.jpg

A behind-the-scenes effects video for Man of Steel was recently released. In it, they explain how they planned a lot of the complex battle scenes, including the one where Superman has to kill Zod...

It always amazes me how they can film something as simple as two people against a green screen and, after the effects are added, it becomes this vast realistic landscape with amazing visual scope.

Nice work, folks.

Justice League Trailer

 photo WW_zpsxbbs15k0.jpg

The Justice League trailer was released over the weekend...

It's a pretty good trailer, although it does appear to be as dark and CGI-y as the Batman v Superman trailer, so I'm hoping it's not going to be too shot-on-a-green screen looking in the theater.

But, I'm still looking forward to this and hope the story turns out to be lot better than Batman v Superman.

We shall see...

The movie opens on November 17th.

Deadpool 2 teaser

 photo a46ab2ce-8f1d-4434-b5a7-4a81e929ac11_zpsnqcfabwq.png

A funny Deadpool teaser trailer was recently shared by Ryan Reynolds and also shown before Logan this weekend...

Watching him trying to change into his costume in the old phone booth (ala Superman) was hilarious.

Water World

 photo cb18c73d-a2a3-4cb6-88ef-1a2a303f074b_zpszusdjful.jpg

Looks like the Aquaman movie now has a release date...

The Warner Bros superhero pic starring Jason Momoa and directed by James Wan will hit theaters October 5, 2018 in both 3D and IMAX.

Aquaman made his cinematic debut earlier this year via a short cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The character will next be seen in a major role in the Zack Snyder-directed follow up Justice League, which sees the major heroes of the DC Universe united to face off against DC Villain Steppenwolf.

The Aquaman stand-alone film stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman – AKA Arthur Curry, king of Atlantis – alongside Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis in the comics and likely to fill the same role here.

I guess a lot of this film's success is going to ride on how well his character is received when he shows up in the Justice League movie next year.

Fingers and fins crossed.

Fisticuffs

The new Wonder Woman trailer was released today....

It really makes the movie look like a fun adventure with some beautiful cinematography...not nearly as dark/dour as Batman v Superman, thankfully.

I also like the funny secretary. She's enjoyable.

The movie opens on June 9th.

Someone also did an edit of the 70's Wonder Woman show to match the new Wonder Woman movie trailer and it's pretty awesome how they were able to find so many clips that actually work...

Super-ish

The first photo of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in the second season of Supergirl was just released...

 photo 8a75ee72-828c-4d5a-a043-e71dc8e74c49_zpsmifcpoxn.jpg

Well...he's not necessarily the imposing Superman we have in the movies with Henry Cavill, but he'll probably be fine for TV.

The screens are smaller...so that'll help.

Wonder Woman poster

The first look at the new Wonder Woman movie poster was released today by Gal Gadot, who plays the title character.

And they also just released the first trailer for the movie...

Jason Momoa's Aquaman appears to have a "little bit" of an attitude problem, which could be fun.

Here's hoping it's better than Batman v Superman.

Wolfman of Steel

 photo 64f9e90b-d9dd-4cfb-9536-2903288cfecb_zpsgx1gzggk.jpg

Teen Wolf's Tyler Hoechlin has been cast to play Superman on the next season of Supergirl...

As Supergirl prepares to fly faster than a speeding bullet from CBS to the CW, the network has announced that Everybody Wants Some! star Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as Superman/Clark Kent, the first live-action television incarnation of the Man of Steel since Smallville starring Tom Welling went off the air in 2011. As previously announced, Superman will make his debut on the DC Television universe, which also includes The Flash, Arrow, and Legends Of Tomorrow, at the start of Supergirl‘s second season when he visits Kara in National City.

I haven't seen him act in anything, but his body of work, evidently, speaks for itself.

We'll see how he fares when the second season of Supergirl debut's on the CW in the Fall.

Batman v Box Office

 photo 37f5a2fc-db58-4706-8c08-7e510c7f8494_zpstfslrege.png

First, the good news about Batman v Superman...

The full international weekend estimates on Warner Bros’ Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice show the superheroes capturing $254M on 40K screens in 66 markets. That makes BvS the No. 5 best opener ever at the overseas box office. Coupled with the record-breaking domestic number this frame, the worldwide total is $424.1M; that’s good for 4th place all-time global opener.

Among the records shattered offshore are: The biggest superhero opening weekend of all time; biggest March opening ever; WB’s biggest China bow ($57.3M); and WB’s biggest IMAX opening ($18M).

So...it made lots of money, which we kind of all knew would happen.

And now the not so good news...the reviews weren't good. At all.

 photo eee99e68-3b47-4124-9a7e-a396984f1144_zpsc0xqlmph.jpg

Even though I didn't think it was THAT bad...it definitely was disappointing in many ways. Thankfully, there was one moment in the film where the audience actually clapped (including myself)...

 photo 4937714-gif_zpsedkjidcq.gif

Yep...Wonder Woman's arrival definitely helped pump some much-needed adrenaline into the lethargic lull that most of the audience had been lead into during the previous meandering two hours of the film.

Let's hope the Wonder Woman movie next June 2017 balances things out and re-sets the stage for a better Justice League movie that follows a few months later in November.

Statuesque

Hot Toys has released a couple images of their upcoming Wonder Woman statue from Batman v Superman.

It looks just like Gal Gadot does in the movie.

They really do an amazing job on many of the faces and eyes on these statues...

Grace Under Fire

 photo 002ba924-13bd-4af3-8c15-2190944c0940_zpsfyugwodo.jpg

Two new movie posters were released today and they are definitely, at least visually, going for two different vibes. The one for Allegiant: The Divergent Series is quite modern and visually futuristic, while the latest Batman v Superman has opted for a gritty, put-up-your-dukes vibe.

 photo 123f3648-d5be-4d47-b178-d2e36432edd8_zpsnwlsf4bd.jpg

I'm really hoping that the actual "fight" in Batman v Superman only takes up about a half hour, so that we get to focus on other characters and plots for the majority of the film.

Otherwise, I'm gonna be very displeased.

Nobody wants that.

It's what we do

 photo abf53f71-1678-4f6d-8047-993372df1a68_zpsohcpmibc.jpg

The first full trailer for the Suicide Squad was released this week...

Honestly, I don't know anything about this comic series and, although the action scenes look good, I'm not all that thrilled to go see it (plus the Harley Quinn character already kind of annoys me).

I probably will end up watching it...but I don't have the same enthusiasm for it as I do for Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman.

Of course, it might turn out to be the best movie of the three...anything is possible.

We'll find out when the movie opens on August 5th.
