Devil!

 photo W_zpsy6povujo.jpg

Well, it looks like Will and Grace won't be coming back after this next season...

Will & Grace is coming to an end. After an 11-season, 246-episode run, the series will end with the upcoming season (the revival’s third and 11th overall) in 2020.

“We think of the Will & Grace’ reboot episodes the way Karen Walker thinks of martinis – 51 is not enough, 53 is too many,” added executive producers Max Mutchnick, David Kohan and James Burrows. “That is why, after consulting with the cast, we all have decided this will be the final season of ‘Will & Grace.’

“In 2016, Bob Greenblatt came to us with the idea of doing a 10-episode reboot of ‘Will & Grace.’ They say you can’t go home again, but we did. And now, three seasons and 52 episodes later, we’re even more proud of something we never thought we’d get a chance to do again. We have had a once-in-a-lifetime experience twice. And for that, we owe a double debt of gratitude to NBC, this show’s supportive and caring home since day one.”

“The hardest part about making this decision is saying goodbye to our outstanding production team and crew who, over two decades, brought passion and artistry to every department. If we had just one more season, we would have learned their names. So, thank you Handlebar Mustache, Cheese Lady, and Cargo Shorts #1 – #12. We will always think of you as family."

“And finally, our deepest gratitude goes to each and every ‘Will & Grace’ fan across the world. It was a privilege to make you laugh.”

I was really happy to see this show back and enjoyed watching it and the characters each week.

I'm bummed that it's ending.

Super.

Shelley Morrison

 photo Screen Shot 2019-12-02 at 5.54.12 PM_zpsvu6ejiri.png

Very sad news over the weekend...

Veteran actress and Will & Grace breakout star and fan-favorite Shelley Morrison died Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 83.

In addition to Will & Grace, Morrison’s resume includes a lengthy list of TV series and films. From 1967 to 1970 She played Sister Sixto alongside Sally Field in the iconic series The Flying Nun.

 photo S_zpshx5xkuke.jpg

She also had guest-starring roles in other TV staples from the ’60s on, including The Fugitive, L.A. Law and Murder, She Wrote. She also provided the voice of Mrs. Portillo in Handy Manny, an animated series from Disney. She also appeared alongside many legendary actors in many films including How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life (1968) alongside Dean Martin, Funny Girl (1968) with Barbra Streisand, Mackenna’s Gold (1969) with Gregory Peck as well as Fools Rush In (1997) with Salma Hayek.

 photo Screen Shot 2019-12-02 at 6.02.09 PM_zpsjxuahsnf.png

The actress’s career spans 50 years but is best known as the sharp-tongued maid Rosario Salazar from NBC’s Will & Grace who would go head to head with Megan Mullally’s Karen Walker, trading verbal jabs and insults. She played the character for eight seasons from 1999 to 2006 and won a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a comedy series.

I used to love her on The Flying Nun and especially on Will and Grace. Her arguments with Karen were one of my favorite parts of the show. Like this one for example...

I thought the show did a great job of paying tribute to her and the character this past year. They must have known that she was ill.

She will be missed but fondly remembered.

Strangers on a train

Photobucket

We'd had such amazing sunny weather all week, I decided to take a train excursion up into the mountains of the south island. So, bought my ticket yesterday and was a little excited to use my hotel's fancy "SO Sleep System" to wake me up in time for my 8:15 am train departure. Rather than an obnoxious alarm to wake you, the room slowly "eases" you into the morning by slowy turning up the lights over 5 minutes. If you don't wake up then, the TV automatically comes on playing soothing music and showing lovely scenery of the area and stays on until you wake up to change the channel. I followed the SO easy instructions and, as a precaution, set my small travel alarm clock....just in case something went wrong.

Guess which alarm woke me up and eased me into the day?

It was so not the "SO Sleep System". Thankfully, my tried-and-true travel alarm clock woke me up or I would have missed the train. Not sure what happened, but the fancy system must have eased itself into a lovely sleep and decided to just take the morning off. So, I got up, got dressed and went downstairs to wait for the shuttle. It turned out that 6 other people were also waiting to take the same train trip and one of their "So Sleep Systems" had done the same thing and, thankfully, they had also set their portable alarm clock as a backup. With the RAIN falling around us...we all got on to the shuttle, then the train, and headed up to Arthurs Pass National Park.

Photobucket

I thought I might be able to get some nice photos during the 2 1/2 hour train ride up into the mountains, but it turned out that taking pictures from inside the train just gave you pictures with your reflection in them and the one "open car" area available (no windows, so no reflection) was packed with people all attempting to take the same picture at once, jumping around as the train sped into mountains. It actually became quite funny just watching everyone, young and old, bobbing up down/back forth thrusting their tiny cameras out at the scenery, then suddenly clutching on to the rail to keep their balance as the train shifted from one side to the other. I decided to just take pictures up at the park and went back inside to my seat.

Photobucket

I was seated across from a really lovely woman from England who was there with her nephew, Toby. He was THREE ("this much" he said with tree tiny fingers pointing up) and this was his first train ride ever. Toby lived with his parents in ChristChurch and he and his visiting grandmother were going up to meet them at a cabin up in Arthurs Pass for the weekend. Toby was also very proud of the bread that he had made with grandma (used for his wee sandwiches in the lower left container). I had him keeping watch for horses and dinosaurs...and elephants....and polar bears, which he was very vigilante about doing until we arrived at our destination.

Photobucket

The train stopped at the national park, let us off for the next five hours, then continued its journey with a few people who were going an extra 2 hours up to the top of the local "Swiss Alps" (which I'll see in Queenstown next week, so I stayed at the park). Those of us who stayed quickly realized that we were kind of in the middle of nowhere, in the drizzle and clouds and not quite sure where to go or what to do. So, we headed to the nearby visitor center and each paid $2 for a map/brochure that very few of us would really need or use. I was very thankful that I had brought along my sweater and umbrella. It drizzled and rained the entire five hours. But, everyone appeared determined to hike into the mountains anyway and at least see a couple of sights.

Photobucket

Everyone seemed to scatter off with their friends/partners pretty quickly and, as I stood outside alone staring up the road of the little town wondering whether I might have made a bad choice (I'm not really a "let's go hike into random mountains in the rain" kind of person)...I noticed Anne, the Scottish woman from my hotel who had also not been eased into her day by the SO Sleep System that morning. She looked very prepared, wearing her hiking boots, a rain coat and matching "slickers", which I would later refer to as her "water pants" for the rest of the trip and, thankfully, it gave her quite a laugh...so now that's what she calls them. She came out of the visitor center alone and, we chatted briefly and just started heading into the same direction. Always hike with a woman wearing water pants (not with water in her pants, wearing the pants!) ...they know where they are going and what they are doing. Unlike some Americans wearing a wet cotton sweater, jeans and carrying a pitiful portable umbrella with several broken rods sticking out.

Photobucket

Anne turned out to be the perfect person to head into the wilderness with. She loved to hike and walked with a purpose and, thankfully, she seemed to enjoy talking to blathering wet Americans. It turned out that we were both kind of in transitional points in our lives, so we had discussions about everything from life suddenly changing, people passing on, following your instincts and heart (this trip to New Zealand was the first one she had ever taken alone) and even about how much it turned out we both loved "Northern Exposure", "Lord of the Rings" and Meryl Streep. It was really nice to hike around the wet, but lovely, wilderness with her. And, as much as I initially thought the rain might put a damper on the whole trip, I actually ended up really liking it. The low clouds sweeping in and around the mountains, plus the light drizzle, gave the whole day a kind of mystical/magical feeling.

Photobucket

We hiked for an hour through the woods, up steep hills and through a variety of twists and turns to an amazing waterfall. It was breathtaking. We took turns taking pictures and even took a few minutes alone just to collect our thoughts, say little prayers, and generally just take in the spectacular beauty all around us.

Photobucket

It really was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

We hiked around for almost three hours, then decided to head back to the small town and get some food before the train came to pick us up. We ate in this nice little tavern, had a great lunch and a beer, and ended up talking to another American college girl traveling alone who ended up hiking with a man who, it turned out, was also traveling alone for the first time since his wife randomly left him four months ago. People in transition...

Photobucket

We all just sat, chatted, shared a piece of chocolate cake (there's always time for cake) and dried out before heading off to catch the train back to the city.

Once on the train, I was determined to take some pictures of the amazing scenery that I had missed on the way up because of the hoards of photographers crammed into the one car. Thankfully, many people were exhausted from their day, so I was able to grab some cool shots on the ride home.

As I stood there waiting for the next change of scenery (and praying that trees wouldn't sweep in front of each shot, as they were prone to do just as you focused your camera), I noticed a short little man trying to squeeze his way in front of where I was taking pictures and, honestly, the first thing that came to mind was....

"Well, well, WELL....

Photobucket

Beverly Leslie!

He visually reminded me of one of my favorite characters from the TV show "Will and Grace" and it took all of my will power not to tell him. So, I just snuck a picture of him, laughed to myself (knowing that several of my friends will be laughing very hard right about now) and went back to enjoying the lovely scenery all around us.

Amazing.

Amazing, Grace!

 photo 6b6616a0-bbce-4c4c-b974-debc0a82614c_zpspedqyq10.jpg

It's CONFIRMED! Will and Grace will be coming back to NBC for another 10 episodes...

The Emmy-winning Will & Grace is returning to NBC. After months of complex and difficult negotiations, the network has closed a deal for a new 10-episode installment of the hit series, which aired from 1998-2006 as one of the last tentpoles of NBC’s once venerable Must-See TV comedy lineup. The 10-episode limited run will air during the 2017-18 season.

The new, ninth season of Will & Grace stems from the surprise election-themed reunion mini-episode released on Sept. 26. Done without NBC’s involvement, it immediately triggered talk of a possible real reunion.

Slowly but surely, producing studio Universal TV was able to secure stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes as well as creators/executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. Veteran director James Burrows, who directed every episode of the show during its initial eight-year run, is on board to direct and executive produce.

“We’re thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt. “This groundbreaking series for everything from gay rights to social and political commentary — all disguised as a high-speed train of witty pop culture — is coming back where it belongs.”

I. Can't. Wait!!!

Fabulous?

Let's hope this is more "The Office" than "Kath and Kim".

FOX has started shooting the pilot for the US version of the cult British TV show "Absolutely Fabulous". Although my initial reaction is fear that it will suck, there are a few glimmers of hope with this particular production.

Jennifer Saunders (who played Edina in the original) is executive producing the show, James Burrows is directing the pilot (he of "Cheers", "Will and Grace" and "The Comeback" fame), and Kristin Johnson (from "3rd Rock from the Sun") is playing Patsy.

At least she looks like Joanna Lumley (who played Patsy so perfectly) from the original.

The original show was so outlandish, full of smoking, drinking and drugging and took place during a very different decade (the 90's). Plus, they were British, which usually adds a bit more bite to any comedy. Will Americans feel compelled to follow two uninhibited accent-free women here in the states?

Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and the Olsen twins seem to continue getting tabloid coverage for similar behavior.

It just might work.

Here is a great collection of clips from the original show (with a few german subtitles sprinkled in, so it's educational too)...

Debbie Reynolds

 photo f764382f-85ad-40bf-b6fc-2adb53e04cbb_zpsuyixsyov.jpg

Tragic news tonight...

Debbie Reynolds died tonight as a result of a stroke. She was 84 and had been taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center this afternoon complaining of difficulty breathing, just a day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died at 60 after a heart attack.

A teenage beauty queen, Reynolds had moved to MGM after some unproductive years at Warner Bros., where her only film of note was The Daughter Of Rosie O’Grady. She will forever be remembered as Kathy Selden, the fledgling actress of serious intent who wins the heart of Gene Kelly’s Don Lockwood in the 1952 Freed Unit classic Singin’ In The Rain.

She was rarely off the celebrity radar screen over more than six decades that included a headline generating divorce when her husband, singer Eddie Fisher, left her for Elizabeth Taylor; more choice roles on film (including The Tender Trap (1955), with Frank Sinatra; A Catered Affair (1956), with Bette Davis and Ernest Borgnine, and the title role in another musical, 1964’s The Unsinkable Molly Brown; and Broadway (as the star of the 1974 revival of Irene). Molly Brown brought her her sole Oscar nomination for best actress.

Her TV career had an inauspicious infancy with The Debbie Reynolds Show in 1969, a time when variety shows were changing with the culture with programs like Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Reynolds’ show was canceled after one season. Nevertheless, she was a guest star on many series, right up through NBC’s hit Will & Grace.

Reynolds’ personal life was marked by marriages that ended in divorce and financial wreckage, from which she invariably bounced back with entrepreneurial ingenuity and an un-defeatable optimism.

 photo 966435b8-9e5d-4edc-8086-6b668fb9705b_zpsdv1mzycu.jpg

She was a Hollywood legend and had an amazing career that spanned decades. To have her pass the day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher...terrible and sad for their families and friends.

She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Slings and Arrows

I do enjoy me some Bobby Cannavale.

I watched his new TV show, Cupid, last night and it's, well...did I mention how much I like Bobby Cannavale?

He's very charming (as he was playing Will's boyfriend on "Will and Grace") and the show has some nice romantic moments. However, it doesn't seem to have that special "magic" to hook a lovelorn audience for very long. His character is supposed to match 100 couples on Earth before he can return to his home on Mount Olympus.

If he connected one couple a week, that means the series would last, in theory, about four to five years.

Unfortunately, with the so-so writing and bland supporting characters, plus being up against that little "American Idol" show...

I have a feeling that Cupid may not be so lucky in love.

Georgia Engel

 photo g_zps3vggqtg4.jpg

Very sad news today...

Georgia Engel, who earned two Emmy noms for playing Ted Baxter’s significant other Georgette Franklin on The Mary Tyler Moore and three consecutive for Everybody Loves Raymond, has died. She was 70.

Engel joined The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1972 when it was a top 10 primetime series and would appear in nearly 60 episodes over its final five seasons. Her dim but well-meaning Georgette was the love interest of self-important anchorman Baxter (Ted Knight), who courted and eventually married her during the November 1975 sweep — though he didn’t seem all that prepared for it. They went on to adopt a child and later had one of their own.

She joined CBS’ mega-hit Everybody Loves Raymond during Season 7 in 2003 and would score back-to-back-to-back Guest Actress Emmy nominations for playing the mother-in-law of Brad Garrett’s Robert Barone. Engel continued to work in TV post-Raymond, appearing in episodes of such series as The Office, Two and a Half Men, Passions and Neighbours. She also recurred as Mamie in 20 episodes of Hot in Cleveland, TV Land’s first scripted series, and her final credit was a 2018 appearance in Netflix’s Grace and Frankie.

Along with her work on the big and small screens, Engle appeared in four Broadway shows, including a star turn in the musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone (2006-07). Earlier she trod the Main Stem boards in The Boys from Syracuse (2002), My One and Only (1983) and as a late-run replacement in the original production of Hello, Dolly! in 1969.

She was always entertaining on every show and certainly had a very long and successful career. You couldn't help but love her.

She will be missed, but very fondly remembered by many.

Yep, he's....

...the guy who played Jack on "Will and Grace".

And he's also gay and finally talks about it in this Advocate interview...

“I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never,” he insists.

“I believe that nobody owes anything to anybody,” Hayes says, so worked up that he repeats the line. “Nobody owes anything to anybody. You are your authentic self to whom and when you choose to be, and if you don’t know somebody, then why would you explain to them how you live your life?”

"Nobody owes anything to anybody"?

He hasn't seen my latest Capital One statement...

Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel in The Hobbit

 photo 4eb09bb1-feb3-4af4-8e6a-3ef56d0f0424_zps62ac6718.jpg

Entertainment Weekly recently released one of the first images of Evangeline Lilly as the new elf, Tauriel, in the upcoming two Hobbit sequels.

Here is what she has to say about her character...

“She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit. She will definitely have a love story.

I can’t give away too much about it. It’s not a huge focus but it is there and it is important and it does drive Tauriel and her story and her actions. Tauriel’s relationship with Legolas is significant. They’ve known each other since they were children, and Legolas’ dad, [Elven king] Thranduil, has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her. So if you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who’s a fantastic warrior, I think it’s hard not to notice her. That’s probably as much as I can say."

 photo bb3d37f1-b18d-4ec3-990f-a30ad1fa3f3b_zps94f1dc6f.jpg

Total Film Magazine also released a couple photos and a bit of information about her character...

Evangeline Lilly is playing an entirely new character (ie. not in the book) in the upcoming Hobbit sequels, so it should come as no surprise to find out that the former Lost actress scores a place on our list.

“She’s a very, very young elf,” Lilly told us. “She’s only 600 years old, unlike Legolas who’s like, 1,900 years old and Thranduil who’s about 3,000 years old. She doesn’t have quite the wisdom and pose that those two boys do; she’s a little more... gritty. A little more spontaneous, passionate perhaps.”

Taking her bow in The Desolation Of Smaug, Tauriel is a fighter who makes a mess with finesse. “To play this character I need to have a certain amount of grace,” said Lilly. “But I’m also supposed to be an absolutely ruthless, deadly killer."

 photo 21e2f09e-e945-4c65-a93a-a2c0cae13cb4_zps19491067.jpg

I really liked her on Lost, so am looking forward to her popping up in the next two Hobbit sequels.

She looks pretty good for 600 years old.

It's hard to believe she and Joan Rivers are almost the same age.

Vote, Honey

 photo 34ad4c81-05fc-4e46-9bf3-30ebe35eb2d2_zpsywitstit.jpg

At least there was one bright spot yesterday regarding the first Presidential debates...we were surprised with a new "mini-episode" of Will and Grace, focused on the election.

They actually did a really good job recreating the set and getting the cast wrangled on such short notice. They slipped back into character almost seamlessly and it was fun to see them all (even Rosario!) together again after almost 10 years.

Lordy...time flies.

The networks really should think about bringing them all back and creating another season or two.

Yes, please.

If you like Will and Grace, then you'll certainly enjoy this fun blooper reel that was just released from the new season.

I don't know how any of them keep a straight (so to speak) face during filming of these episodes.

The good news is that we have a new season heading our way in the fall.

Amen!

Grace Lee Whitney

 photo Rand_zpsve33bx2o.png

Very sad news over the weekend...

Grace Lee Whitney, best known as Yeoman Janice Rand in the original Star Trek series, died on May 1 at her home in Coarsegold, Calif. She was 85.

Whitney was fired at the end of Star Trek‘s first season, but she went on to reprise her role as Janice in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

She also guest-starred in a 1996 episode of Star Trek: Voyager that commemorated the 30th anniversary of the franchise.

It was always nice to see her pop up in the various Star Trek films and TV shows over the years.

She will be missed.
