City of Roses

Photobucket

I've been in Portland for a couple of days now and have really enjoyed my time just wandering around the city. It's a very clean, green, walkable town that has been described as a cross between Seattle and San Francisco...but with a smaller-town feel.

That really does seem to fit.

The Williamette River winds through the center of town which breaks up the vast span of green landscape all around it. With six expansive bridges stretching out over the water, there is no shortage of options for getting yourself into the heart of the city.

The architecture around town is a really nice mix of old vintage buildings and new modern construction.

Public transportation is very popular and easy to use and, within the city-center, free. The old train station in town is certainly one of the cleanest I've ever seen in any city.

And, although I haven't come across any creepy dolls yet, I did find these two disturbing creatures pretending not to stare at me through a storefront window.

I couldn't wait to not buy them.

You'll certainly never run out interesting things to see and do in Portland.

So put on your walking shoes, grab a tasty beverage, and take in the sights and sounds all around you. It's really the best way get familiar with any new destination. You just never know what you're gonna find around the next corner...

Now, that's a really big shirt.

I almost dropped my camera right after that picture when a random vagrant came by and said "Hey" behind me on the bridge...I think my "Ahhhh!" scream scared him away and I managed not to drop my camera into the lovely water below.

Good times.
