It appears that the director of TV's Fargo and Legion series may be writing and directing the next Star Trek movie...

Paramount Pictures is in final talks with Noah Hawley to write and direct a Star Trek film. Through his 26 Keys production banner he will produce along with JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot banner. Hawley will helm the fourth film in this iteration of the venerable franchise, with the Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban.

In addition to his groundbreaking series Legion, Hawley serves as executive producer, writer, director and showrunner on FX’s Emmy-winning limited series Fargo. He currently is in production on the fourth season, which stars Chris Rock, with Hawley directing the first episodes.

I like both of those series and, of course, love Star Trek.

All available body parts are crossed that this will happen soon.

Number Two

A couple of new trailers were released this weekend at New York Comic Con, the first of which was for the upcoming Star Trek: Picard series on CBS All Access...



It's looking really good and, as much as I've fought it, I may have to get CBS All Access when this starts airing on January 23rd.

They also released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Discovery...



I still haven't seen the second season, but this new season won't start until sometime next year (likely after Picard), so I'll watch both of them after that as well.

It seems you can now pair the upcoming Star Trek: Picard with his signature wine...

Château Picard in Saint-Estèphe, France had actually been making wine in Bordeaux long before those fictional Picards showed up in La Barre. But now it’s teamed up with CBS and Wines That Rock to bring you an official version of the wine that made the name of the Enterprise captain’s family, ever since the vineyard was first glimpsed in The Next Generation’s fourth season. 

Being made to tie in, of course, with the upcoming Star Trek: Picard—which sees Jean-Luc retire from Starfleet and attempt to follow in his brother’s footsteps, overseeing the family’s wine-making business—the 2016 wine is an 85 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 percent Merlot blend. Really, what you’re paying for here is the fact the bottle also replicates the label seen in the first Picard teaser, so it really is like owning your very own Picard-made wine, a few centuries earlier than you should. 

To boot, alongside the Picard wine, there will also be a 2017 vintage United Federation of Planets wine, a Zinfandel produced not by Château Picard, but Dry Creek & Russian River Valleys in Sonoma County, California.

It sure beats Earl Grey, hot.

She was one of my favorite characters on Star Trek: Voyager and I'm REALLY excited that she will be on this show as well.



I may have to break my no-paying-for-CBS All Access stand I took when Star Trek: Discovery was put there.

We shall see how I feel when this comes out early next year.

Like Star Trek: Discovery, it will only be available on CBS All Access (which I'm still not paying for).

I'm looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Star Trek: Discovery has been officially renewed for a third season...

EW reports that CBS has officially confirmed a third season of the show is in the works, planned to air in the U.S. on CBS All Access, Space in Canada, and on Netflix internationally in 2020.

I'm glad that it's continuing to grow and, hopefully, it'll end up on Netflix one of these days, because I still refuse to pay to watch it.

Until then, I look forward to the DVDs coming out.

She keeps on Trekkin'

Great news today for Star Trek: Discovery fans...

CBS All Access has officially signed Michelle Yeoh to star in her own, so-far-untitled Star Trek series. “I’m so excited to continue telling these rich ‘Star Trek’ stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’” 

The show—written by Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt—won’t focus on Yeoh’s Star Trek: Discovery character Phillipa Georgiou, the noble Starfleet Captain we met at the beginning of the series; instead, she’ll get to dive further into the version of Georgiou from the Mirror Universe, former Emperor of the evil Terran Empire, who found herself brought over to Star Trek’s primary timeline in the back half of Discovery’s debut season. 

That means that aside from exploring this much more villainous interpretation of Georgiou, the series will dive into the character’s time as a recruit of Section 31: the shadowy Federation black-ops group first introduced in Deep Space Nine as a hidden branch of Starfleet tasked with doing the dirty work needed to maintain the Federation’s lofty utopian ideals.

She did a great job on the first season of the show and is set to recur on the second season, which starts airing this Thursday January 17th.

I look forward to watching the DVDs of these series when they become available (because I still refuse to pay for CBS All Access just to watch Star Trek).

The final trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery was released today...



Overall, I enjoyed the first season when I watched it on DVD and this season is looking pretty promising as well.

I'm looking forward to watching the second season sometime next year, after CBS All Access is finished airing it.

It's more affordable to just buy the DVD set when it's available, than to pay for CBS All Access.

I like affordable.

Classic Pop

A couple of new trailers were released over the weekend with some blasts from the past. First, the new Aquaman trailer revealed, not only more action and a longer look at the film, but a glimpse of Jason Momoa donning the original costume...



I know that trailers can be deceiving, but they are really doing a good job of balancing action, visuals, and fun.

Me likey and I'll be there when it opens on December 21st.



Star Trek: Discovery also released a trailer for their upcoming second season and it revealed a lot of new surprises, including a first look at Spock...



I still refuse to pay for CBS All Access (it's cheaper to buy the DVDs each season, which I recently did for Season One), but I look forward to watching this new season next year when the DVD is available.

Until then, everyone else can watch it when it premieres on January 17th.

I really like the cast, although I'll have to watch Split before I see this.

But it's looking pretty good, so far.

We'll see how it turns out when it's released on January 18th.



Star Trek: Discovery also released the trailer for their upcoming second season, which features the original Enterprise led by Captain Christopher Pike...



I refuse to pay for CBS All Access just to see this show, so am just going to wait until it either comes out on DVD or shows up on Netflix.

That being said, the second season looks good and I look forward to one day watching it to see how things play out this season with Spock showing up at some point.

No announcement on who will be playing him, but a part of me hopes it's Zarchary Quinto.

We shall see.

It looks like a new Star Trek-branded vodka is about to beam onto shelves very soon...

Silver Screen Bottling Company and CBS have just announced another addition to their line of Star Trek themed booze—which a) exists in the form of a Captain Kirk Bourbon and b) somehow does not yet actually feature Klingon Bloodwine—in the form of Ten Forward Vodka, taking inspiration from The Next Generation’s recreational hub of choice.

The Ten Forward Vodka is set to retail for $30 a bottle when it hits shelves and replicators near you soon.

It's a bit pricey for a bottle of vodka.  But, I have to remember that it was obviously made in space.

News today that Quentin Tarantino is developing a Star Trek movie idea with JJ Abrams at Paramount...

Already busy prepping to direct the film he just set up at Sony Pictures, Quentin Tarantino is also planning to boldly go where he has not gone before. Sources said that Tarantino has come up with a great idea for a Star Trek movie at Paramount. After sharing his idea with JJ Abrams (who himself is busy prepping Star Wars Episode IX), I’ve heard the plan is to assemble a writers room of scribes who’ll hear Tarantino’s take and begin to put together a movie. If it all works out, Tarantino might direct it, with Abrams producing.

Well, this will be interesting. Let's hope he's a big fan and not just doing it to fit in with his other movies. Otherwise it could be one of the most violent Star Trek movies ever made.

I don't want my Star Trek being too stabby.

A long Trek

The first trailer for Please Stand By was released today. It's about a girl with autism who runs away from her group home so she can turn in her Star Trek script for a national competition.



It looks like the kind of film that I'd enjoy. It has a Star Trek-related plot, Patton Oswalt, and a road trip adventure.

Sounds like a fine time to me!

The movie opens on January 26th.

Deadline featured a very nice interview with Patrick Stewart today, where he discusses his career, Star Trek, and his final appearance as Professor Xavier in Logan...



He's had an amazing career and looks really good for 77 years old.

After only a few episodes in, Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a second season..

CBS All Access has announced today that Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a second season. The original series broke a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day, week and month for the digital service.

“In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise,” said Marc DeBevoise, President and Chief Operating Officer, CBS Interactive. “This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they’ve accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series.”

Although I've only seen the first episode (I'm not paying for CBS All Access), I'm happy to hear it's been renewed for another season. I'm hoping to either catch it when it gets released on DVD or if/when they release the first season on Netflix (hopefully sometime later next year).

Regardless, it's good news and I hope the series lives long and CBS prospers.

Discovery air date

The first episode of Star Trek: Discovery will air Sunday September 24th on CBS and then the following episodes will air exclusively on CBS All Access after that.

We'll see how this subscription-only series goes over with fans. Many have stated that they won't pay to watch the show.

We'll soon find out whether that's true or not.

Queens of the Desert

CBS finally revealed the first photos from their upcoming Star Trek: Discovery series today AND the first full trailer...



I like it and am cautiously optimistic for now.



The series features Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as First Officer Michael Turnham (right) and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as Captain Philippa Georgia (left) and takes place before the original Kirk-Spock Star Trek.

After all of the delays (it was supposed to be ready in March) and lack of promotion, I was getting very concerned that it might get cancelled before it ever aired.



However, I think the effects, uniforms, and cinematography look pretty cool and, if they keep that up, we just might have a fun new Star Trek series to enjoy after all of these years.

The first season (15 episodes) is set to premiere sometime this Fall on CBS/CBS All Access.

The Orville

The first full trailer for Seth Macfarlane's upcoming Star Trek spoof, The Orville, was released today...



Seth is a huge Star Trek fan, so this series should be a lot of fun. It's got a great cast (including Agents of Shield's Adrianne Palicki) and really good visual effects.

Since Star Trek: Discovery continues to be delayed (it was supposed to be on the air now), I think this will be a great replacement until it finally shows up sometime later this year.

The Orville will air Thursdays from 9:00 -10:00 pm on FOX in the Fall.
