There are a few trailers for upcoming movies that were released recently that look pretty good, for different reasons.
Enough Said stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the late James Gandolfini. I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus (if you haven't seen Veep, you should). Plus it's got Toni Collette and Catherine Keener, also enjoyable. If nothing else, it'll be a good OnDemand feature.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty stars the always-entertaining Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig. Plus, for some reason, its theme and music resonates emotionally with me like The Tree of Life trailer did.
Diana stars Naomi Watts as Princess Diana and covers her life and affair during her marriage to Prince Charles. It looks pretty interesting and she does look a bit like Diana, so that helps. Plus, it's got Naveen Andrews from Lost playing the doctor. Nice to see him in a feature film now that he's off the island.
Ender's Game released it's first full trailer today and, overall, it looks pretty good as well. Although, it makes me feel old and kind of sad that Harrison Ford, once such an energetic charismatic action hero, is looking/sounding so....old and sad.
I mean, TODAY he even signed on to do Expendables 3...the oddly popular film series where old action heroes prop themselves up for ONE MORE MISSON.
Couldn't he have at least held out for Reds 3? At least those movies are well-written and feature Helen Mirren.

Emmy Nominations
The funny Kristen Chenowith and Neil Patrick Harris got up early this morning to announce the Emmy Nominations.
They also ended up being nominated themselves, which was a nice surprise to each of them, as you'll see by the clip above. They both made the normally bland reading of the nominations a bit fun for a change.
I'm very happy that several of my favorites got nominated this year. People like Kathy Griffin, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Glenn Close, Jean Smart, Cynthia Nixon, Laura Dern, Tina Fey, Tim Conway, Ellen Burstyn, Sharon Gless, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Steve Carell, Sally Field, Mary Louis-Parker, Judi Dench, Chandra Wilson, Candice Bergen, Dianne Wiest, Alfre Woodard, Laura Linney, Michael Emerson (Ben on "Lost") and James Spader.
I'm also happy to see that "The Office", "30 Rock", "Brothers and Sisters", "Amazing Race", "Extras", "Boston Legal" and "My Life on the D-List" were all nominated shows in their catagories.
I am VERY happy to see that the horrible remake of the movie "Sybil" didn't get anything.
I do love Jessica Lange, but I hope that she was able to collect a nice paycheck and then take a LONG vacation after that fiasco.
Here is the complete list of Emmy Nominations if you'd like to take a peek.

Wedding footage
Ellen DeGeneres started the new season of her talk show this week and, as promised, showed some behind the scenes photos and video footage from her wedding.
The first clip is funny and features some nice photos, while the second clip features a very touching behind-the-scenes video of the actual wedding day. They both seem to be very emotional and quite happy. I really like the song "Today" by Joshua Radin, that is sung by and performed at their wedding, in the second clip.
If I'm ever fortunate enough to have a wedding, I think I'll feature that song too.
Enjoy.
Also, Ellen showed this clip of her going out to meet her new Warner Bros. neighbors on the lot, where she "accidently" hits Julia Louis Dreyfus in the face with a rock.
Julia's profanity-laden response is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time!
JLD is hilarious!

Hardly a petal

Katie Couric has done a very entertaining interview with Veep star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, about the new season of the show and a variety of other fun topics...
Julia is definitely one of the funniest actresses around and can swear right up there with the best of them, which I always enjoy.

Veep hangs with the Veep

Julia Louis-Dreyfus did this hilarious video, as her character Vice President Selina Meyer on Veep, for the White House Correspondents dinner over the weekend that features Joe Biden, Michelle Obama, and Nancy Pelosi.
It is HI-larous.

The scene with Julia and Michelle around the ice cream and then the line "I don't really workout."slay me.
I. Love. Her.

Web Therapy: Season 3

Lisa Kudrow is back as online therapist Fiona Wallace for another hilariously awkward season of Web Therapy. Here is a behind-the-scenes clip of what to expect this year...
In these two episodes, Fiona is forced to get some "real" therapy from her equally-dysfunctional sister (played by Julia Louis Dreyfus), a licensed therapist.
Two of my favorite actresses doing what they do best....bringing on the funny.
I wish someone would put them in a movie together.
It would be sheer heaven.

Eating Pickles

Jimmy Kimmel presented another round of "Celebrities Read Really Mean Tweets About Themselves" and, like the others, they are very entertaining.
I love that Julia Louis Dreyfus just thinks hers is hilarious.
I enjoy her so.

Barely Legal Pawn
In prep for the Emmy Awards this weekend, the TV Academy put out this video that shows what happens when Julia-Louis Dreyfus tries to sell one of her Emmy's to the Breaking Bad guys.
I enjoy her so.

Veepers!

Very cool new cover of Rolling Stone featuring the Veep's Julia Louis Dreyfus.
That tattoo of the Constitution on her back had to hurt.
What's up with the two dents above her crack? You'd think they would Photoshop those out or, at the very least, BeDazzle them…weird.
Also, if you haven't watched Veep on HBO…you should.
She's a riot.

My Fiona

Lisa Kudrow's popular online web-series, Web Therapy, is now a new half-hour series on Showtime Tuesday nights. If you haven't seen it before online, then you should try to check it out now. She plays an unlicensed therapist who does uncomfortable 10-minute online therapy sessions with people from her home computer.
Here is a preview of the show...
I love her and really need to get Showtime!
If you'd like to see some of her best online episodes with Meryl Streep and Julia Louis Dreyfus, check them out here.

Tube Talk
One of the things I actually looked forward to upon my return, was catching up with many of the TV shows that had (fingers crossed) recorded while I was gone. Luckily, most of them were here waiting for me. Whew! I have always been a big TV watcher, probably always will. It's a part of who I am, good or bad. So, I spent a big part of today diving in to some of my favorites...
Plus, the DVR is full...so I have to watch some of them quickly or they will disappear into the cornfield.

The New Adventures of Old Christine
There were two episodes of this show waiting for me and I enjoyed them, as always, just as much as any of the previous ones. This show makes me laugh out loud at least once or twice an episode (and these days, that's rare). I think it's a very funny, well-written, well-cast show and that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is...hilarious. I loved her on "Seinfeld" and I love her, in a slightly different way, on this show. She's just a funny gal and the supporting cast, especially Wanda Sykes, are also very funny. If you haven't seen it....you should give it a shot.

Samantha Who?
I wanted so badly to love this show. I liked the first few episodes last year. I mean, I think Christina Applegate is entertaining, but having Jean Smart (Charlene from "Designing Women") playing her mother....how could it not be a laugh-riot? But...it's not and, after watching the three new episodes that were here today...I'm not sure that I'll watch any more episodes. I think it's the basic concept of the show that is very limiting and, honestly, it seems to be trying to be a comedy at times...then a dramedy...then a real wacky comedy. It's all a mishmash that just doesn't really mesh well. It's not awful or even bad...it's just not....special. Great cast...ok show.

30 Rock
I rewind this show more than any other show. Not because it's hard to understand, but because it has so many funny/smart/quick lines in it, that I'm usually laughing from one and miss the next two. Tina Fey is such a smart/intelligent/funny writer..I don't know how she does it. The pace is quick, the editing is almost as important to the show as the writing. This show is all about comic-timing and they have it in spades. Plus, regardless of how crazy Alec Baldwin may or may not be in real life, he is hilarious on this show. HI-larious! If you don't already watch it...you should.

The Office
I know, I know...there are many out there that say "It's not as good as the original British version.". However, I think both are great and, in their own way, unique and just as funny. Our country has a history of butchering "remakes" ("Stepford Wives", "Coupling" and, may God forgive Nora Ephron for destroying the movie version of "Bewitched". A movie about a witch...without any magic. Perfect cast...terrible movie. Don't get me started...).
But, the cast of the American version of "The Office" is great (each one of them) and the show is funny, almost painfully so, at times. It reminds me of another funny/painfully awkward show, "The Comeback" with Lisa Kudrow. So smart, funny, and real...that it was difficult to watch at times because, as often as the lead character, Valerie Cherish, put herself into a bad situation, she was still "real" and, when bad things happened...it was like witnessing deep, personal pain that no one should ever see, let alone experience. But, in both shows, there are moments of sheer, comic genius and milk-shooting-out-of-your-nose hilarity. It's a balance I enjoy.

Men In Trees
I've mentioned, in a past entry, how much I enjoy this show. Unfortunately, my DVR deleted 3 episodes of it to make room for other shows (thank goodness for full episodes being available online!). I still wasn't able to find the episode that showed Jack being rescued, but I got the others...so it'll have to do.
I just love this show. It makes me laugh, smile and, sometimes cry. It reminds me of another old favorite of mine, "Northern Exposure". They are both shows that take place in beautiful, quaint, remote towns in the middle of Alaska. Places where every character is someone that you'd like to have around you. They live in towns that are beautiful, clean, violence-free, and the people all look out for each other. You know...fantasy worlds. But, I wouldn't miss it. It's an hour of peace, beauty and smiles filled with people who treat each other like we'd all like to be treated, care for each other like we'd all like to be cared for, and who love each other deeply and with an honesty that, although rare, is still possible to find in friends and, hopefully, lovers (I'm still looking for that one).
I'll take that any day over watching the onslaught of doom and gloom on the news, the eating of live bugs or scheming and deception on reality shows and the violent subject matter of so many crime shows that fill the screen on any given night.
It's almost too much to bear at times...
Sometimes you need a little fantasy, to help make reality a little easier to deal with.
And in keeping with that....tomorrow, I'm gonna try and tackle "Lost", "Brothers and Sisters", "Heroes" and a few others.
Reality can just take a number...
Plus, the DVR is full...so I have to watch some of them quickly or they will disappear into the cornfield.

Body Snatchers

My eyes…MY EYES!
As part of their 25 Best Characters on TV issue, Entertainment Weekly decided to do a bit of a switcheroo on their covers with Kevin Spacey dressed as Selina Meyer from Veep and Julia Louis Dreyfus dressed as his character, Frank, on House of Cards.

They should totally let them switch and play those roles for a season…ratings would be crazy!
