Primetime Live had a very interesting show on last night called "What Would You Do?" where they placed hidden cameras in public places and set up different scenarios (racial profiling, helping a fake police officer, gay-bashing) to see what regular people would do in that situation.
Overall, there were more people that helped than didn't. Here is one of the segments...
It was nice to see some people stand up to the man causing the trouble. Although in my opinion, the guys were being a bit more affectionate than I think most people would be if they were in that environment. But, I suppose they wanted to do that in order to make sure they got some kind of reaction from patrons.
I was more disturbed by the earlier segment with the African American woman being asked to leave an upscale clothing store just because she was black. Most customers just stood there watching, but saying nothing...even though it was obvious that the woman had done nothing wrong.
Plus, it was awful to be reminded that there are still some people out there who say things like "those kind of people"....
Thankfully, a few customers did finally stand up to the "store manager" (also an actor) and try to help...so there is some glimmer of hope for our world.

WOW! I saw the one about the gay couple earlier on joemygod but did not see the one about the woman in the store. That absolutely amazes me. I am half mexican but look white but my mother on the other hand is mexican and has this really awesome caramel color and I would enraged if this happened to her. Our family owns a car dealership and she has told me that many times she has been stopped and the Texas DPS has taken her out of her car and searched the vehicle and her person for no other reason than the fact that she is running around with dealer tags on a nice vehicle, which she is normally is some mercedes model. The thing that precipitates that is that in Texas it is required to have two plates, one in front and one in the rear, but dealers only get one plate and we often will get pulled over for that but it normally is something where they walk to the window and just wave us on. I have never once been asked to exit my vehicle and neither has my father. I simply cannot believe this and also how calm many people were about it. In our business we never teach to judge before talking to someone. That cover can always lie.
Yeah, people are quick to judge in this society and also quicker to look the other way. It's sad. But, it's nice to see that there are still come people out there who will help, just because it's the right thing to do.
