Scent of a Woman
New York has certainly smelled worse...
JoeMyGod posted about another occurance of an unusual syrupy scent wafting over Manhattan again this year.
The mysterious sweet smell that swept over parts of the city more than three years ago returned on Monday night. The city’s 311 information line was flooded with callers reporting the smell of maple syrup, or something like it, wafting across several neighborhoods, a spokesman for the Office of Emergency Management said.
According to the Gothamist, this is the sixth time that Mrs. Butterworth has forgotten to take her Beano before heading out for a night of mexican food since October 2005.
When I lived in New York, I encountered a variety of unique odors throughout my time there. My least favorite was the "subway in winter" smell. The unpleasant mix of sludge, heat, and urine was something that my nasal passages will not soon forget.
"Essence of Butterworth" would have been a very welcome alternative.
However, regardless of this instance, Mrs. Butterworth's is still my favorite syrup of all time. I've loved her since I was a kid and she's standing tall and proud in my cupboard today.
She also co-stars in one of my favorite commercials of all time...mainly for her very last line.
"Oh, someone has put a logo right over my face."
Makes me laugh every time.
