Beam it up, Scotty

I wish I had known that it was closing TODAY...

After a decade at the final frontier, Star Trek: The Experience is going where no Las Vegas Strip attraction wants to go.

With a decommissioning ceremony -- as befits any great vessel -- the exhibit and its replica of the starship Enterprise are closing Monday.

Thousands of trekkies are "beaming up" from across the United Federation of Planets, er, the United States and around the world one last time, according to exhibit spokesman Chad Boutte.

It's a shame that I didn't have some notice, because I would have planned a trip back to Vegas to see it one last time.

I went to the Hilton a few years ago and had a great time strolling through the emmersive environment. If you have enjoyed any of the "Star Trek" series or movies, you would have had a great time at the "Experience". There were lots of exhibits showcasing costumes, models and props throughout the series evolution.

It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, rather than dumping all of your paycheck into the "I Dream of Jeannie" slot machines (which I did a lot of back then).

They had a great replica of the "Next Generation" bridge that you could pose on and, if you were especially hooked....could even arrange to have your marriage performed on, for a small fee.

Don't they look like a happy family?

I think the cowboy hat on the guy in the back makes the whole thing come together.
